DID NOT FINISH: 39%

Kept trying to get into this and couldn’t. No discernible chemistry between them and nary a sexual moment. I can’t imagine the payoff is worth it when I feel like I know exactly how it ends.

2.25/5

This book was dreadful. Extremely boring. The characters were badly written and I didn't feel any chemistry between them at all. The book mostly focused on the locations and what attraction each city had instead of a romance between the protagonists.

Until Poppy got sick (4 years ago) I had not even one sign that Alex might have feelings towards her. There was nothing to work with. I would love to hear something from his perspective, maybe I'd have a different opinion, but there was nothing. He was only ever talking about Sarah (and Poppy was too) and all I knew was that Alex was in love with Sarah.

And I was supposed to believe he loved Poppy for 12 years? No. Absolutely not. I hated that.

The plot was so boring, I was forcing myself to read this book. I liked Beach Read so much that I had so much hope for this book but I was disappointed. this book was recommended to me multiple times and yet all I feel is boredom and a slight resentment.

I really hope that other books by this author will be my cup of tea, because this one was not.

hot take: tuscany was bigger than croatia (iykyk).
everything is else was personal.

re read: this was even better the second time since the timeline wasn’t stressing me out. poppy and alex are forever sooooo important to me… THEY’RE FRIENDS ‼️‼️‼️

I really enjoyed that although both protagonists seem pretty perfect for each other, they have different wants and expectations and lived experiences. The ‘lack of communication’ trope works well with this one. I also liked the resolution with first boyfriend

Favorite quote: “Vacations always end. It's the very fact that it's finite that makes traveling special. You could move to any one of those destinations you loved in small doses, and it wouldn't be the spellbinding, life-altering seven days you spend there as a guest, letting a place into your heart fully, letting it change you.”
