Woah.

This one shook me, in a good way.

It started out as a domestic story of a couple struggling with infertility.  Honor and Tom are in Paris on vacation with their toddler daughter, Chloe having a regular morning that is punctuated by an argument over her obsession with having another baby.  Honor is the narrator, and she leaves in a huff to get breakfast in the lobby with Chloe.  They meet a woman in the elevator and shortly thereafter the woman detonates a suicide bomb and kills both Honor and Chloe.

The rest of the story is about the events Honor put in motion by personally choosing their egg donor and surrogate.

Really well written and cleverly plotted.  Not a fan of love stories typically, but this was a winner.

[Keeping this vague to avoid spoilers.] What a weird story, and not in a good way. Brings "problematic" relationship to a whole new level. I don't know if having Honor as a narrator - also weird - was meant to absolve Tom from his horrendous behavior, but it definitely didn't in my eyes.
I really should have just dnf'd this when "Grace was found" and it became somewhat clear where this story was going, alas, the audiobook narrator (Fiona Button, +0.25⭐ for her) was very pleasant and I was hoping this would not go in the obvious direction (what with all these high ratings), hence I stuck it out, though the ending was as unsatisfying as the rest of the story, and the part of it involving Lauren seemed so cringy and forced. What a waste of reading time 🤐.

This book took up all the free space in my brain.
I knew nothing going in and definitely feel like that’s the way to go.
The shock value in this is 10/10.
All of the characters need a LOT of therapy (& possibly prison). I cannot decide if I feel sorry for , am sacred of, or deeply despise almost every character.
The ending felt way too clean for how messy the story was but I had the best time. This one will stick with me.
