November Bookclub Book 2023

I mean it was sweet but. Somehow lacking.

3.5!

This was freaking adorable. And emotional…had be tearing up there at the end. Would def recommend.

Holly and Emma may be strangers but they have more in common than they know. Both suffered a terrible loss from a car accident. Both are processing a lot of guilt from the tragedy. And both, unbeknownst to them, have a personal connection in common due to a chance meeting. Unable to find healing herself, Holly is determined to reconcile Emma with her estranged family--no matter what the cost, but with Emma terminally ill, time is running out. Can she repair this family before it's too late? Can she find a way to repair her own?

A decent, though often sad-, romance. I am a little weary of the I've-Got-a-Secret trope in romances where someone is withholding a huge thing that is very clearly going to derail the relationship later. In this I was relieved to see the disclosure happen fairly early on so we really get to see the characters process this on multiple levels and deal with the fallout.

Note: In this book basically all of the saddest parts happen over Christmas Eve or Christmas so if you're looking for feel-good Christmas this may not be it, though you will get a happy if a bit poignant, ending.

Note 2: if you're more of a "cozy romance" reader this may fit the bill. It's a slow burn with the characters apart more than they're together. There's chemistry but not a lot of spice, so it really depends what you're looking for.

This book was excellent but not five stars because it did go on maybe a bit too long. This really was a stand out Christmas novel. Don’t expect a cute happy romance with this one, but do bring your tissues.

4.5✨ Such a sweet book that gracefully discusses grief, forgiveness, and love.

Solid storyline. This is more of a romance that has Christmas in it. When reading holiday books with the title Love Holly I want it dripping in Christmas.
