Again, please see my previous review of this book for full thoughts, but I'm currently listening to the audio versions as they're about to disappear from the Audible Plus catalogue.

Thus far, this book has had the best narrators of the series. Both voices finally match the characters perfectly, and their inflections and changes in tone to give voice to other characters are all strong enough to stand out, but not so over the top that they ruin the mood. I'd STILL like to see them voice the lines of their character in their opposing chapters; I just think it makes sense! But the performances were good enough in this one that I wasn't as bothered.

The audio does make the story feel slower in pace than the physical read, and overall it does seem like there is less action (but there is plenty of 'action' 😉) in this one, so there are moments where it is easy to zone out. But then, that's good when you're using the books to relax! And it's definitely an easy listen.

I guess I'm not as drawn to this one as the 'good boy/bad girl' dynamic isn't my favourite (I prefer the other way around). But still, the characterisation is good and I like the way it doesn't feel too stereotypical or trope-y, while still playing off of those things.

One more to go (Crossed isn't on the freebie list, sadly...)!

“Don’t worry, he can still be your little lap dog, Dorothy. I’m not interested in training new bitches.”

Evie is definitely my favorite villain so far!! She is not even morally grey, she is morally black. I feel like she’s been the first TRUE villain in this series, one that really doesn’t deserve a redemption, but yet you are still rooting for her.

The spice between her and Nick was spicingggg. I think they’ve had the spiciest scenes so far that I’ve listened to (yes there is a đŸ”« scene, but the chair scene in the cottage was also đŸ„”). Also their banter and chemistry was amazing. They had me laughing out loud.

I found it hard to believe that Evie didn’t automatically suspect Nick as being undercover though from the beginning. Yes, she had doubts about his true identity, but I felt like she blindly trusted him. Her first thought wasn’t that he could possibly be undercover and that was just out of character for her. Otherwise I loved the rest of it. The pacing was great and the ending was so cute and sweet.

“For someone who doesn’t believe in romance, you’re irritatingly good at it.”

- Wizard of Oz
- She’s the villain
- Age gap (8 years)
- Calls her “sweetheart” and “pretty girl”
- Forced proximity
- Witty banter
- Black cat x golden retriever
- Spice: đŸŒ¶ïžđŸŒ¶ïžđŸŒ¶ïž.5/5

I don’t care about this FMC at all. Her personality, her attitude, her back story, I just don’t care. The other characters in the book even were annoying, boring and predictable. The audiobook actresses’voice made it hard to bear. I couldn’t stand her voice.

I liked that the lady main character had the morally gray traits! Also the wizard of oz/wicked references were amazing. Always makes me smile. I didn’t love the Mr. Main character I didn’t find him to be particularly interesting but I don’t think that was the intent. The focus is more on other characters growth and drive.
