Gosh it started off so good, I thought finally a good one from Emily McIntire. Her vocabulary has expanded from the first two never after books to this one.
But then she has characters with irreconcilable differences just throwing their morals away for a good lay.
If she can just get story telling down these would be great.

There is no redeeming qualities when it comes to Evie in my mind, that woman is off her rocker. I did like Nick, though, which made it more complicated. Also the spice hit well.

Dark Romance, Enemies to Lovers, 3 3/4 🔥

I liked that the lady main character had the morally gray traits! Also the wizard of oz/wicked references were amazing. Always makes me smile. I didn’t love the Mr. Main character I didn’t find him to be particularly interesting but I don’t think that was the intent. The focus is more on other characters growth and drive.

Wretched - Emily McIntire

“Are you quoting Shakespeare to my pu$$y”

Wretched is a dark “retelling” of the wizard of oz. Eveline, our FMC, is a morally grey, trigger-happy bada$$, compared to the cinnamon roll MMC Nicholas. Whilst they’re polar opposite, she should be everything he hates, they could be each others downfall, you cannot tell me they were not meant to be. The reason I say “retelling” is because everything you know about The Wizard of Oz? Forget it.

If you love;
✨Morally grey FMC
✨Fairytale Inspired
✨Age Gap
✨Kn!fe to Throat
✨Villain gets the man

I wanted an “easy” read/listen whilst I was doing something, and by easy I mean didn’t need my full 4 brain cells working at once. And this was that. Don’t take “easy read” as cute and fluffy, whilst this was cute in the darkest way, it was dark, possibly triggering for some, but for my blackened soul this was perfect. I don’t know how something so dark had my wanting to kick my feet. There were times my partner questioned why I was smiling to myself.

The 🔫 scene, makes others look sane.

I loved this book, devoured it in one sitting, it had me feelings so many things. I think Evie is up there in my top 3 FMCs. If there’s something Emily knows how to do, it’s write a villain you can’t help but love.

Genre; Dark Romance X Fairytale “Retelling”

Pages; 306
Rating; 4.5/5⭐️
Spice; 4/5🌶️
Series or Standalone; Interconnected Standalone (3rd in the series)
Tropes or Themes; morally grey FMC, cinnamon roll MMC, Age Gap, Villain gets the man, kn!fe to throat, praise, undercover cop x crime boss, enemies to lovers

This was a wonderful re-telling of the classic wizard of OZ. Character names are different and the setting is completely new. I loved how imaginative it was and the character strain of emotions was intense! Love, love, love this book!
