It is a good first read, this was my first book that I actually finish it and I enjoyed it. But the girl lowkey kinda cringe.

because everyone loves a girlboss until she tries to tell you what to do.

i am a feminist

I’ll admit, this one took me a while to get into. As the main themes were laid out, I was in part wondering where it was going and in part finding the theme of feminism a little heavy going.

But I think that’s the part I ended up liking the most. The role of feminist icon is assigned to Eliza at the start of the book, but as it goes on she questions feminism and what contributes to the notion, and how to be better in everyday life because of your feminist nature. Eliza begins the story being sure of what the concept is, and the end of the novel she is accepting that she still has more to learn, that it’s a constant growth. When they’re at a party, and Eliza is first to decide not to badmouth another girl, that’s when I felt she was truly growing and I was on her side from then on.

Overall it’s a solid debut from Michelle Quach and I look forward to her next efforts.

tankytoon's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 6%

Too woke and political for my taste, also the FL is insufferable.
I don't like people who pull out the [fill in blank] card just because things don't go their way. I'm not saying that misogyny doesn't exist, but for the MC to lob that as a "go-to" excuse because she didn't win the election, is just frankly giving feminism a bad name.

I dont know where to start because i love the book. At first i was wondering about the title 'not here to be liked' i think i wanted to dont like Eliza but i really loved her because she isnt perfect, she try to question herself a lot on everything i can relate a lot to her and her questions.
I was afraid about the feminist subject but it was well written, I could understand what the author wanted to show us. At the end of the book we have a lot of questions about what to think about some situation on the book, that a good thing.
Now i need to talk about the the romance it was really soft and cute Len is a nice guy (i can't tell more because im afraid to spoil)
Friendship is a part of the book and I wanted to know more about Winona and Serena

'Not Here to be liked' has some ennemies to lovers romance, diverses book, asian cultures, féminist subjects.

Thank you NetGalley for the eArc
