this book was so fun and cute! i think the things it mentioned in here was really great for people that get bullied or not being "liked". i did enjoy this and would def recommend!!

I want to preface this by disclaiming that yes, I am ashamed that all three (I know, so many) books I've read so far this year have been 5 star reads. Sue me.

Anyways, I adored this book. From start to finish it had me hooked with these lively, fast-paced chapters filled with humour and endearing moments that made me feel so much affection towards these characters and their silly little high school problems. Alongside this, it genuinely explored some really interesting perspectives of modern feminism through the lens of the hyper-feminine Serena Hwangbo, the standoffish/jaded Eliza Quan, and the collective of bystanders. It tackled ideas of slutshaming and male privilege with gravitas, not compromising the severity of the topic by adopting a lighthearted romcom lens throughout the entirety of the novel. Those lighthearted romcom moments were quite lovely though if I do say so myself.

"This is how it is with all elections, at Willoughby and beyond. A girl who seeks a leadership position must be smart, competent, hardworking, attractive, and, above all, nice. She must be all of those things in order to stand a chance against a male opponent, who frequently only has to be some of those things, and sometimes isn't any of them. A guy who seeks a leadership position just has to try not to mess up too much. Girls get judged for their past; guys get judged for their potential."

I'd anticipated this one for a while and I really wasn't disappointed! Great writing, compelling story that never lost me despite the serious tone, Eliza is a good character and it's beautiful to watch her development... And maybe I'm a little in love with Len too

For a first read of the year it was fine. Loved the overall point but it dragged in for far too long. This book could have been over in the first 200 pages if side plots were not fogotten halfway into the book. Nothing really to write home about.

I honestly didn't like the main character in the first couple of chapters. I thought she was being too self-centered and immature about not winning the position she wanted. I ended up liking her more in the later parts of the story. I have to say I like the main male character more than the female. I like how he was being quite considerate, and how he was dealing with shit. What I didn't like, though, was what he did to Eliza. But it's a good thing they ended up reuniting at the end of the book, which was quite expected. I'm also glad how it turned out for both Winona and Serena.

To be honest I'll give this a 4.5

Half of the time with the feminist movement I was thinking how Eliza is having the wrong but also right concept of it.

Len scenes are what I enjoyed the most and getting to know him more.

I didn't expect that he was the one to post the manifesto to be honest and I thought Serene was gonna end up as an asshole of a person and I'm glad that she didn't.
