Reed plays with form and structure that I found difficult and inaccessible at first but with dedication I came to really enjoy this collection of poems. He writes frankly and graphically about his experiences being a queer black man especially in one of my favorite poems "To every Faggot who Pulverized me for Being a Faggot." The poems can be tough but well worth spending time with them.

I recommend reading this one outloud. Reed's language concoction is astounding.
