A wonderful debut. This book examines family ties, love, trust, and forgiveness. The novel is told from 2 main perspectives- the sisters Martha, whose baby is dead, and Becky, her sister who is accused of murdering her niece. The author did a great job of alternately going from past to present making the reader think. I am impressed that I knew from a little before the halfway point how the book was going to end…

This is dark, and compelling, and really well-written. It’s also a book about a dead baby that impressively manages not to be a hideous fictional example of tragedy porn (for real life examples of how to do a big thing badly, see media coverage of the Louise Woodward and Casey Anthony trials).

Particular props for nuanced relationship dynamics among the main characters that feel very real, and for the best-written and most accurate ED resus scene I’ve seen dramatised.
