I'm 12 minutes into the audiobook, and I can already tell that this will be a great listen. History, comic books, feminism, and pushing societal norms, all in one book? Sold!

What an interesting read! There is plent of drama, secrecy, and wonder in this book, although there are several times where the flow of facts jumped around almost too much; the pieces were sometimes hard to put together. It is fascinating to learn of such progressive lives from a more conservative time, espeically since the family's set up would still cause much controversy today. And the character of Wonder Woman herself has been through so much - I'm glad she's landed back in her original life.

Well documented, including historical photos and examples of early comics, Lepore provides the origins of DC’s Wonder Woman.

I enjoyed the historical aspects of this--it's a better book than most user reviews here would indicate, but it does play out (sort of) like the longest New Yorker article ever--so that may be appealing to you, or not...

Read Harder Challenge #10: A microhistory

Man, I really loved this book. What an absolutely fascinating story of the origins and following highs and lows of Wonder Woman. Who knew, adultery, suffragists, polygamy (of sorts), and S&M all played into the creation to this awesome character?

This is as much a history of woman's rights as it is one of a comic book heroine. I consider this a MUST READ!

very well researched and the way the history unfolds was masterful.

How do you make the story of the creator of Wonder Woman dull? The guy invented the lie detector, had a fixation with bondage and had a very unusual home life with women who inspired his famous character.

Well, the tragedy here is that the author has been so meticulous in her research and boy does she want to show it, all at the expense of pace and a clear narrative. I found the writing so densely detailed that my attention would inevitably wander. I was also disappointed that the character of Wonder Woman wasn't delved into more, the focus here was much more on her creator and the history that led him to put pen to paper.
