Honestly, I love old school books like this. This was so fun and creepy at times. Even though this was a very predictable read (and had some religious overtones I wasn’t necessarily fond of), it was still a very entertaining one.
I will need to invest in more retro Christopher Pike books to read in October because they are the perfect spooky vibe I will be looking for.

I remember that I read Road to Nowhere a few times when I was younger, as one of the bargain bin books I got in a bundle. Liminal space before and after death is a concept that interests me, and maybe it started somewhere around this book. I liked the dual narrative storyline, as well.
Minor: Suicide attempt
Pretty crazy plot... You know something's up from the beginning but you don't find out what it is until the very end.
Usually Pike's tempting words whirl me up into a state of orgasmic reading bliss, but here the release didn't match the build up. The traditional Pike strengths are here in their usual trimmings - strong characters, a bizarre and twisted story, a strange ending - but the pizazz existing in some of his other works is watered down.
For one thing the pace wasn't as strong. It's not a slow book by a stretch, and there's a scene or two in there that's mystifying, but the road to nowhere left me on the road to drowsiness. The constant talking, thinking back, and thinking forward in bizarre terms made it harder to sympathize with the protagonist. I liked her, but she's not especially admirable.
Pike's writing style is always welcomed, celebrating every stories strength. There can be no fault found there. A right amount of tension is present, keeping the pages turning, and it's hard to get away from the book, even if it's not perfect. The ending was as powerful as most of his other works, leaving on a good note for a change, if not a little dramatic. So, overall it's certainly worth a read, but it doesn't live up to the greats of his other stuff.

Not really a horror fan but summer always makes me daring and I don’t think there’s something more amazing and cool that being in the middle of summer and finishing the night with a thriller novel, preppin’ for the heart of Halloween aka my time to thrive. Apparently, Christopher’s Pike novels are horror YA novels, well let’s take a look at my first novel from him, the one that pops the cherry, Road to nowhere.
Teresa runs away from home one rainy night, driving along the California coast she takes two hitch-hikers with her, Freedom and Poppy. They start telling stories, Teresa about her failed relationship, Poppy about a sad woman she onced knew and Freedom about a brilliant guy with a bad temper. Apparently Free and Poppy are magicians going to a gig up North, more him than her anyway. They start talking about a couple and their unfortunate events during their love life, which is quite bizarre if you think about it because they don’t talk about their own life even though Teresa talks about hers. We still don’t know why she left home. But the novel was short, suspenful and quite eerie and it was packet with blows, I liked it. It delivered and I couldn’t get the ending.
