I really loved the idea of Maeve getting a much needed break at the start of this book when she's at her colleague's wedding. I know I completely gush about Derwent but I really like Maeve! She's tough, super smart, and sarcastic, yet also feminine and I love getting to know her outside of her job. She has the best insight into herself as she often knows what she's about to say or do isn't going to go well for her but she'll do it anyway. While enjoying time off the job at the wedding, there's a very interesting scene between Derwent and Maeve (hint..it involves dancing) that literally left me breathless...I think Jane Casey wants my head to explode over these two characters!! Soon enough, however, the job intervenes and they return to London to investigate the murder of a policeman. This murder is not at all what it seems and worry starts to build that other police officers may be targeted as well. Then, we have Maeve's on-going cat & mouse with her stalker from a previous book, her continued love/hate relationship with Derwent, her relationship crisis with Rob, as well as Superintendent Godley's secrets coming back to haunt him...all in all there's drama and suspense coming from every angle and I loved every second of it.

The Kill is number is #5 in the Maeve Kerrigan series which keeps getting better and better. I have been working on catching up on this series over the past year or two and it has become one of my top crime series. This novel has everything I like about a crime series; extremely well drawn characters, complexity, a great standalone crime story, and ties to previous novels in the series. "The Kill" really expanded on the backstory from earlier books in the series. Although readable as a standalone, I think it works so much better having read the series from the beginning. I think that Casey has developed some of the best returning characters of any crime series I've read.
This one wasn't as good as the previous one. The mystery part wasn't as good and I didn't really like what was happening in the personal lives of the main characters. It was still enjoyable though.
Silent Kill - Maeve 8.5, takes place between Cruel Acts and The Cutting Place. This short novella told from the perspective of Georgia is probably closer to a 3.5 but I was so happy to be back in this world so I rounded up. Still not a fan of Georgia, despite the insight into her life. As per usual when it ended I was left wanting more Maeve and Derwent. Definitely recommended at the $2.99 kindle price.
Loved this! Mega box-ticker! Bit annoyed about it all but loved it, a real page turner!

The Maeve Kerrigan series has been a favorite of mine this year. The cases investigated are fascinating, and full of twists and suspense, and The Kill had some particularly high stakes for everyone involved. The author excels at developing interesting story lines for the characters beyond just the cases, which is impressive considering how much police work is also being detailed. It's possible to pick up one of the books in this series without having read the previous books and still find a fulfilling mystery, but I'd recommend interested readers start from the beginning to collect all the back story on the characters for optimal reading enjoyment. ‘The Kill’ is an exciting, renewing page-turner with Detective Constable Maeve Kerrigan. The plot of the novel is complex to say the least. There are many plot twists that left me shocked, dazed and once even slightly broken hearted and extremely sad.
The novel ends with a cliffhanger, which is EXTREMELY frustrating. Dear Jane Casey, please write Maeve Kerrigan #6. Because I need another novel with these awesome, brilliant, troubled characters. Pretty pretty please. Kind regards, Sonja.

The characters, GOSH THE CHARACTERS, were as witty, funny and sexy (yes, I’m talking about DCI Josh Derwent) as always! I love Maeve even more after reading this novel. She is a strong, independent character with a good soul.
The writing is, as usual, excellent. It’s exciting, thrilling, surprising, at times a bit funny, all in all it’s amazing.
I recommend this novel to everyone who likes reading thrillers or crime novels or both. And to people who like reading a novel with a strong, independent female character. You won’t regret picking up this novel!
