I loved every single thing in this book. I laughed, I cried, then I laughed and cried some more in the end. Mostly because I was about to lose hope for Amani and the others and I'd get a tragic ending. I guess I was wrong. Still got into an emotional rollercoaster though.
I'm gonna miss reading about Amani, Jin, and the Rebellion, but I'll certainly reread the series again when I feel like getting into a selfish girl's shoes who want to run away from her dead ole town.
I still can't move on with a certain character death though. Multiple ones even, but iykyk.

OMG. I love this book series. Brown Women of Color kicking ass and taking control. Sigh. It's what dreams are made of. Though, I won't lie that at the half way point in the book, I was deeply concerned that there wasn't enough time left to neatly finish up Imani's story. But never fear! The use of mythic storytelling chapters not only helped break up the narrative, but also allowed time to move more swiftly while still answering plot holes. I didn't feel cheated; in fact, I felt that these chapters (much like in Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath) added to the culture of Miraji and helped make the magic.
