Really enjoyed this! Great adventure with friends and a puzzle unraveled at the end. Looking forward to reading Ophelia's next adventure.

**Few Spoilers**

Mmmm….very underwhelmed. Very predictable “twists” with little to no plot or world building. Didn’t care or connect with the FMC or MMC. Ophelia lacked substance & Malakai was….there. I honestly liked some of the side characters more like Tolek & Jezebel & wished we could have had more about them. The “trials” were a joke & very much reminiscent of The Drop from Crescent City. Was really hoping to learn more about the angels & that world but got very little.

But the main thing that made me roll my eyes SO HARD was the sex scene. Ophelia was SO annoying with her back & forth feelings of betrayal towards Malakai keeping secrets with the “I can never forgive you” “everything we had shattered” “you left me for two years & I turned to alcohol”…..but oh look a fire in this fireplace & a cozy rug right in front of it….lets have sex. Like really??? It felt so random & out of place to me.

Overall, not the best read ever. Will I read the second one? Maybe…if only for Tolek & seeing if we get anything about the angels.

This book had me wondering what was going on for a while. Not in an "OMG WHAT'S GOING ON" way but like actually a little confused. In the end, everything ended up coming together. I will read the rest of the series but this definitely left me feeling like something was lacking. Overall I did end up enjoying this book though.

I really liked this fantasy!! Something I really needed since finishing the SJM universe. I LOVED the main characters they are really what made the story so much better. The twists were good and it was set up really well to get you into the series.

- mystique warriors (has magic and goes through an undertaking in the magical mountain to fully ascend); Grishan warriors (main enemy of the mystique d/t evil queen Kakias); humans; fae; lesser clans (mind shapers; bodymelders, soulguiders, starsearchers, seawatchers); angels and gods

- found family = Ophelia (FMC badass warrior, 20 yrs old, lost her love 2 years ago, met Damien (angel) who basically told her to do the undertaking to ascend and fix the curse she has); Jezebel (Ophelia’s younger sister, 18; also a bad ass but more soft and motherly compared to Ophelia); Malikai (Ophelia’s lost love; went to the h dealing and never came back for 2 yrs - supposed to be the next revered - warrior prince); Cypheron (quiet analytical smart strategist, raised himself and is the voice of reason); Tolek (golden retriever, comedic relief, seems like he has a crush on Ophelia) Sortorina (Rina; human, runs her parents bar who died in the war; healer, voice of reason, blunt)

- licidious = Malakai’s dad who is the revered

- Ophelia’s dad is his second

- found family
- betrayal
- epic fantasy
- trials
- spice 🌶️ at the end
