I’m surprisingly really enjoyed this one!
I found the world building to be digestible, however the actual magic system could’ve done with some more explaining and elaboration.
I really liked the curse element of the story and I’m curious to see where that plot line is going to go in book two.
All of the main side characters that joined Ophelia on her journey were incredibly entertaining and really helped the flow and quickened the pacing. Oh and I can’t wait to see some Ophelia and Malakai moments.
It was predictable at some points but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I dont get the hype for this one. Ophelia is whiny and pouty. The "journey" is drug out and forced. the side characters were probably the best part but I felt no real connection between them and Ophelia. It just fell flat and was so boring, I was skimming past whole pages that were so repetitive. The ending was predictable. I will not be continuing the series.

Without giving away too many spoilers: read this book (and I'm excited to see where the series goes).
Ophelia is a fierce warrior that loses her way. But finds her way back to herself.
The found family in this story is beautiful. There were so many moments that made me want to squeeze all my friends.
Loved the twists and turn... it kept me on my toes. And I'm excited to jump into book 2.

Overall, this book was a good start to the series. I definitely agree that it is very much a book that was written to set up the rest of the series. So I do think it's weak in that way. But, that didn't necessarily make it bad and it was important to set up the friendship dynamics and establish mysteries and such. The book was really slow for me up until the last 100-ish pages and then it picked up and I really found myself turning pages. I feel like now that we've set up what needs to be done and what we can start to discover the mysteries of, the next books will be better. At least, that's what I'm hoping lol. Overall, I didn't think this book was bad, but it also wasn't the page-turner I was hoping for. But I'm definitely continuing the series because I do really enjoy our characters and I like the romance that's being set up for later books.

@35%. girl shut up about how much you love this man that i literally know nothing about bc i don’t believe you
I keep going back and forth on the rating for this one so I’m gonna call it a 3.5 ⭐️ I loved the found family and really like how she did the ending but something about the FMC bothered me. I think I was comparing her to Aelin from SJM too much which wasn’t fair because I don’t think they compare. Any wayyyy I did enjoy this but wasn’t super hyped to read it every night.
