Total guilty pleasure and an easy read while visiting with family. I am fascinated with Hollywood during the studio era when she was beginning her career and she was such an amazing character. This was a relatively schmaltzy but endearing and interesting read. I recommend it for fans of the lady and of pop culture.

Katharine Hepburn is one of my all-time favorite actresses. This book provided a fascinating and somewhat unique glimpse into her life. I am a huge movie buff, particularly older movies, so enjoyed very much hearing all her stories about the stars and the system back then. She lived a great, long life and was to the very end, a classy lady. I enjoyed reading about the author's unique and personal friendship with her and how their relationship evolved over the years they knew each other. I think she would have been very fun to talk to over dinner and drinks. For me, this book was worth reading just for the stories of old Hollywood and her adventures with Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and of course, her great love, Spencer Tracy. For that reason, I highly recommend this book to any fans of classic Hollywood movies or Ms. Hepburn herself.

I lost interest not even half way through the book, mostly due to the many (to me) uninteresting stories about famous people the author interacted with. I'm also not the biggest fan of the structure of the book. It is definitely well-written and I think people who already know a lot about Hollywood during Katherine Hepburn's career might appreciate it.

this is the best biography on katherine hepburn out there. she became friends with the author before he became her biographer so there is a much more personal feel to the book than most biographies. i enjoyed every minute of this book.

Some reviewers have stated that they were disappointed in the writing of this book - that there was too much of the author's story mixed in with Ms. Hepburn's. I really enjoyed that part of the author's story. It added something new to the already known facts that "we" lovers of Hepburn already knew, many times over. The title of the book came to mind . . . should Berg have changed it to insinuate that part of the story was his? "I Remembered Kate," perhaps? I don't believe so. It's a fine title as it stands.
I did wonder, though, at a comment that the author made in the beginning of his story. He wondered why Ms. Hepburn kept inviting him back to her home - almost to the point of living with her at times. By the end of the book, I still wondered that. Out of all the people that she knew, to keep company with, why this young man? All I can surmise is that he had a polite infatuation with her (as many would have had); he knew much of the Hollywood history: actors, actresses, movies; and he provided a great deal of fun, saucy banter, in which she could volley her quick wit about.
The story was very well written, enjoyable, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

EXCELLENT memoir of the author's time spent getting to know the fabulous Katherine Hepburn. A love story of sorts.

Such a great book! It's very personal, and not unbiases--which is the main part of the fun. I love Katharine Hepburn anyway, and it's good that I didn't read this with my netflix queue in the same room. If you're at all interested in Hollywood history, this is a must read!

I think I enjoyed this book more because I listened to the audio version which was narrated by Tony Goldwyn, which was great! Not sure if it would have held my interest if I had read it.
