Too slow and a bit difficult to follow.

A Far Wilder Magic is a beautiful book, gentle and raw, a spotlight on racial and cultural injustice in the setting of a seaside town in the early 1900s. It is full of alchemy and religion, and yet so very human. Margaret and Wes are broken and lovely, and the balance they find is natural. The book itself moved slowly, but I didn’t find myself bored at any point; on the contrary, I found myself thinking about the story every time I had to put the book down and carry on with daily life.

I really liked this book. The prose was beautiful and was totally sucked into the world and the story. It was sad and also beautiful. It felt relevant to today’s societal issues even though it was set in a fantasy-ish world. It explored the themes of what it means to love and be loved, to pursue your dreams even when they don’t make sense and it feels like the world is against you, and to fight for justice and freedom in an unjust and oppressive world.

I loved this book in a way I can barely put into words. It's the phantastical answer of why I'm majoring in a Social Science. On top of that; the imagery of the forest and countryside of Wickdon, the perfect mirroring of historic tensions.... it feels like I have been waiting for this book.

I never liked the girl; I liked the boy…until he started liking the girl. WHY WAS THE ROMANCE SO DULL!? I swear, if I have to read “her smile was almost enough to undo him” one more time. Where was the chemistry, where were the plot twists, why wasn’t there more made of the relationship with her mother at the end (WAY more interesting than the extremely predictable, eye-rolling, gushy YA fest), why did the ending give me nothiiiiiing?? All that build up for what bro.

(Maybe I need to read something more gay lol)

I'm reviewing this so long after I finished bc I was too lazy to do it. I probably would've rated it higher right after I finished but I haven't found it to be very memorable/stick with me very much. the story was pretty good, the hunt was interesting and a fun idea. I wish the magic was a little more delved into, it was pretty surface and a little confusing bc I couldn't really tell how it worked. I liked the main characters and was rooting for them too but im ngl I dont remember that much about my specific feelings about them lol. overall I enjoyed this audiobook! it was a pleasant story but not a super ultra love for me

Predicable, normal plot.
