I’m still – and will probably be for years to come – in the process of catching up on all the books I missed, and I want to thank authors who write follow-ups that give me an excuse to go back in time in between ARCs.

I’d heard a lot about The Club over the years, and it’s a favourite for many people I know. Still, I wasn’t prepared for it, not to enjoy it so much.

This review probably won’t add much to everything that’s been written since the book was released in 2016 so I’ll keep it short. I understand why so many people love The Club. I’m very impressed it was a debut. It’s insanely hot from first to last page, and there are also some very tender moments. And I’m now even more impatient to read [b:The Club Revisited|58515995|The Club Revisited|A.L. Well now. Isn't this an interesting concept and a fascinating read. I loved the idea of a no strings attached lesbian sex club with different rooms for different levels of encounters. It took a bit of work keeping track of timelines following Mandy's career path and eventual ownership of the club but this did not detract from the players involved in the action in the green, blue and red rooms of the club with no name.
I found this a very voyeuristic read. I cheered on the HEA's and wept for unrequited moments experienced by this small but memorable cast of characters.

Not my usual fare but well worth the read. If a book can stir up this old libido it's always a good thing.

I've been trying to branch out on my romance reading lately and thought this might be an interesting read. And it certainly was. Not a ton of buildup to romance even though there is a lot of sex. Instead of really getting to know a couple of characters, there is a rotating cast of women falling in love (or further in love) based around one place: a lesbian sex club. It's a safe place for women to come and enjoy anonymous sex but safely, with a lot of rules. Not my usual read but not a bad book, especially for one that essentially wove together several novellas in less than 200 pages.

***No Synopsis***
This book was so much more than most of the erotica published today. The main character was given a very believable backstory and all the characters who come in an out of The Club have stories that in some fashion intersect with each other. I thought the author put a lot a work into making this book a good story as well as fine erotica.

I feel really bad for dnf-ing this book, but I just couldn't read further.

There are no 1 or 2 star ratings on goodreads (12th august 2016), so I'm probably very alone with my dislike of this book.

I just couldn't get into it! I didn't get a feel for the different characters. Instead I felt indifferent and with some eve annoyed. Example: two women are in a relationship, one of them doesn't like to be eaten out and they are having an argument over it every few weeks. Wtf?! Just don't do it? There are other fun things to do? I really, really didn't get it. Is that such a big deal?

Another thing bothering me was the butch/femme dynamic. As far as I read there is always a butch and a femme getting it on. Because you gotta have the male part and the female part of course. Yes, I know there are butches and femmes, but that's not all there is and it's not always butch/femme.

Anyway. I really dreaded reading, so I didn't read for three whole days. Even though the writing itself is not horrible or anything.

The sex scenes were hot enough on their own if I didn't think too much about it, but that is not enough for me to read further.
