Put simply, this is X-rated YA.

That’s a neutral statement, mostly. YA isn’t bad, X-ratings are welcome. I’d bet anyone who’s read it would at least know what I mean in saying that. It’s riddled with angst & immature, adolescent vibe, but gorged on graphic ‘adult’ content. This is Crank (Ellen Hopkins) & Cut (Patricia McCormick) taken up a few notches. I’m still not convinced books like those are helpful or healing, but they feel good in the same way pressing on a bruise does.

I respect the author for taking the time to include hotline resources as well as a detailed CW in the front of the book. I will also be forever thankful for “she smells like flowers, but probably really ugly ones” because I still remember the cramp I got from laughing at that, in context.

Please read TW before picking up this book. Hallie and Zayne are a prime example of what untreated trauma and mental illness can look like in adults. These characters are so toxic for each other, I couldn’t help but feel heart broken for them. This is not normally a book I would read, but it was hard to put down.

This book was one h3ll of an Emotional rollercoaster but oh so good. I loved the rawness of the characters with their past traumas and history of addiction. Even their current battle with addiction throughout the book. I felt connected to each character in some way. Basically when they hurt I hurt too. Now I won’t lie I was angry a lot with Zayne but I know he battled with alot of self d3mons. Overall I enjoyed reading it. Does end in a cliffhanger so I am ready for book 2.

My poor dark heart!! This book is absolutely amazing!! I went into this book completely blind (like all my other reads) and I’m glad I did. This book threw me for an emotional rollercoaster. And I loved it.

Zaynes and Hallies relationship is the definition of toxic, but no matter how bad they are for each other, that can’t stay away.

I can’t stop thinking about this book. Shae did a phenomenal job with this story, and can’t wait to see what happens in book two!

⚠️please read the TW!

The title is so fitting for this book. The writing is incredible. You fall for the characters, and you break for them. The twists and turns. Amazing. I thought this was a typical sad love story, and boy, was I wrong. I had higher hopes for the ending, but over, still a good book. (A dark and sad book but good nonetheless.)
Triggers include but aren't limited to: drug use, sexual abuse to a minor, domestic abuse, and self-harm.
I received an arc copy of this book for an honest review. I leave this review voluntarily.

This book did what the title said: shattered my heart! It was raw and tragic and beautiful and I was wanting all good things for the characters. I also never wanted it to end. It was an eye opening way to look at those specific disorders. It felt so real and vulnerable.
Somehow I enjoyed the heartache that it was

DNF at 42%. The writing was good and the story was compelling, but the drug use scenes are a lot. I’m a big fan of dark romance, but I find hard drug use triggering, and I didn’t expect it in this novel. If graphic descriptions of drug use are triggering for you, then I do not recommend this read.

The title of this book is 100% accurate.

If you look up the meaning of toxic relationship then Hallie and Zayne will be front and center. This book pulled at my heart strings. Not only did it bring up thoughts about my own struggles with mental Illness, but it also showed me another side of it as well. This story follows Hallie who deals with her own mental health issues and PTSD from past traumas. She falls in love with Zayne who struggles heavily with addiction. They tear each other apart slowly with their toxicity, but they still love each other so much they can’t stay away. I laughed. I cried. My heart broke into pieces. But this does end on a HEA which again made me cry. 5/5 for plot and 3.5/5 for spice.

This book could have been great but i feel like i read the same scene over and over and over. And they had so much sex thst the spicy scenes didn’t even matter to me anymore bc we had real issues to deal with and then they would just have sex. Which i get is part of the problem hallie has but it just made the book tedious. Tw for: extreme drug use, self harm, mental illness, sexual assault of child, and attempted suicide
