I finally found the courage to ask myself the question I’d been running from since Kenneth motherfucking Easton came into my life. What if Ken’s not expressing his feelings for me because they’re just not there?

I don't know what I was expecting when I went into this, but it sure wasn't what I got. I mean, this was a freebie that has been sitting on my Kindle for at least a year, if not more. There were so many reasons for me to love this story. I've always enjoyed stories that are told in an unconventional way, such as e-mails, interviews, or journal entries (which was the case in this one). I think the clean breaks sooth my ADHD-addled brain while the originality keeps me on my toes. I also love stories about misbehaving youths, and that's simply because they allow me to relive my glory days. AND, in the present day, the narrator is... you guessed it... the mother of two kids, one of which is under a year. She is breastfeeding, for fuck's sake. As the mother of a 6-week-old, I have never related more. Finally, not only am I currently breastfeeding a tiny human, but I am also homeschooling an 8-year-old due to a fucking pandemic... while my husband is out of work due to aforementioned pandemic. I needed something enjoyable and funny, a read that didn't take itself too seriously. THIS BOOK LITERALLY CHECKED EVERY SINGLE BOX, and you bet your ass I have already bought the next four books. Considering I just confessed that the only adult in the household able to work currently isn't, that should tell you A LOT about how much I liked this one.

It took about three weeks for me to get past Ken’s lack of tattoos and emotional range, but once I finally realized how stupid I was over this guy, I knew it was time to do what I did best—spread my legs.

The premise sounds complicated, but it's really not. Our narrator BB, who is a school psychologist, has been married to her husband Ken for about a decade. They have two kids and lead a very stable life. Ken is an accountant that treats BB very well, but he can be cold and emotionless at the best of times. Still, after dating only bad boys that broke her heart, BB loves the stability Ken provides her. That being said, as a reformed punk-rock partier, she still has that crazy streak. She loves Ken with all her heart- and yes, I truly believed that- but she wants to make him perfect. She keeps a journal on her laptop, and one night she figures out that Ken has read an entry about Knight, her first boyfriend from when she was fifteen. How does she figure it out? Because he does something out of character that she LOVES. That's when she (and her BFF) come up with an idea: why not write a made-up journal about all of her ex-boyfriends that addresses all of Ken's shortcomings and motivates him to fix them? This means we now have 2 journals, one catered to Ken reading it and one that is actually true. The romanticized version of these exes are always hot, sweet, and somewhat funny entries. But then we get to read the reality, and that's always downright sidesplittingly hilarious. So, really, this is a preview of the boys who gets the next four books: Knight (a skinhead who isn't racist [b:Skin|43557045|Skin (44 Chapters, #1)|B.B. Easton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547416286l/43557045._SY75_.jpg|53798132]), Harley (AKA Ding-Dong, a stoner [b:Speed|34402822|Speed (44 Chapters, #2)|B.B. Easton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1503063992l/34402822._SY75_.jpg|55504069]), Hans (a bass player in a metal band [b:Star|34402825|Star (44 Chapters, #3)|B.B. Easton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1522213071l/34402825._SY75_.jpg|55504074]), and Ken (her husband [b:Suit|34402826|Suit (44 Chapters, #4)|B.B. Easton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1539052252l/34402826._SY75_.jpg|55504076]). I loved all of them in their own way. I honestly don't even know if the books are based on the real or the fake version of these boys, and I don't think I care. I am confident BB belongs with Ken, so I just want to know what happens to all of them!

Now I’m starving. Now I’m screaming at him from inside my head to make me feel something. Now I’m talking to my journal like some kind of imaginary friend. Now I’m fantasizing about my loser ex-boyfriends and devouring bad-boy romance novels like they’re my last meal.

Alright, so since this is going on my favorites shelf, why not 5 stars? Even though it did have heart, it's clearly not winning a Nobel prize anytime in the near future. Also, while I didn't have any moral objections to what she was doing- it's a work of fiction, for fuck's sake- I did find her to be selfish at times. Also, there was something a bit confusing about the fact that she wanted her husband to be more like her exes. She even admitted that her marriage has lasted five times longer than any of her previous relationships. So... did she ever stop to think that maybe that was because Ken was different? And let's be honest- some of her expectations were downright ridiculous. But also, some of them... weren't. And in those moments, I found Ken to be the pain in the ass. It's not shocking that right now, I would sympathize with a postpartum working mother, but let's be honest- if a woman births two of your children, you should be rubbing her feet and paying her compliments monthly at the very least. Hormones are a fucking bitch, and they exist to turn molehills into mountains. If you know what she wants, fucking give it to her! I have zero doubt my husband would say the same thing. It keeps the peace in the house, and considering we're stuck inside for the foreseeable future, a fucking foot rub seems a small price to pay, am I right?! Anyway, I got off track there for a minute, but the point remains the same: if you're looking for a good time and you aren't easily offended, read this book ASAP!

Complete and utter lack of passion aside, I still love the shit out of Kenneth Easton. In fact, he’s my all-time favorite person. I think I even like him more than our kids. (Honestly, what have those little shits done for me lately?)

Ready for your world to be rocked? Here goes:

And that’s when it occurred to me. Not ten minutes ago, that exact same nipple had been in the baby’s mouth. And a few years ago, it had been in my son’s mouth. So, this is what a family is, I thought. Just a houseful of people who’ve all sucked on your tits. And have also been inside your vagina.

This book is so fresh, entertaining and thought provoking!
BB is so likable, she’s so unique and a real paradox.
It’s a memoir that’s been partially fictionalized, I enjoyed that aspect so much.
It’s like nothing I’ve ever read before. I was completely engrossed in this psychological battle that’s also a really interesting and fun trip down the author’s memory lane.
Her rebellious nature and irreverent heart spoke to mine.
I loved the stories of the bad boys, both the good and bad are told.
I loved her openness and honesty of her own flaws and mistakes.
And Ken… what can I say? He got the girl against the odds. On the surface it doesn’t make sense, but I think it probably is a great real life match.
It made me feel all those youthful feelings again, it made me laugh and it was deeply emotional.
It’s also a wake up call of sorts. BB went through all these secret tactics to revive her relationship, there’s a lesson in there. I think she’s quick to point out the obvious, we don’t need to go to crazy lengths to open conversations up with our partner. Communication is important and she made me realize I wasn’t the only one who got complacent and unhappy. It’s not as unusual as we think. It’s a gift that she gives the reader in my opinion. You aren’t alone in those feelings!
And there’s the pure enjoyment of getting a glimpse at her wild and rebellious past, what she experienced and what made her who she is. It’s fun and clever.
Such an exciting book and I think it’s one of a kind.
A must read!

Watch the show Sex/Life on Netflix instead. It took several core story nuggets from this book and made it into a very intense and sexy show with very multi-dimensional characters and good conversations about sex. Heads up to put your expectations in line, that show is a proper drama while the book reads more like humor smut (which is fine, though as I learned, less my cup of tea).

I thought this book was funny and entertaining. I would be interested in reading the stories about each man. My only question is why did the author marry her husband? She does not really mention any positive aspects of his personality until the very end of the book.

I think what makes this so amazing is because it is so real. Reading this made me look at my husband in a new light. I am not sure why, maybe the entire book is just reverse psychology subconsciously working magic on every reader.
I liked it because this is the first book I have read, in this genre, where the hero is such a normal, not perfect, (naturally handsome) man.
Maybe I love it because it is gritty, raw, and so f**king honest.
BB Easton is witty, charming, and slightly spoiled based on my knowledge from her writings. But I loved it all. She is relatable. She may honestly be all lot cooler than many of the typical heroines because she acknowledges her sketchy past, her failures, and her weakness. But she has the kind of confidence every woman wants.
All I know is that I loved this. I laughed out loud. I felt my heart get some tugging pains. And it was hot.
Additionally, BB Easton provides the reader a glossary so you understand the language Easton has created. Examples: Bonerversary, Husboner, Husbot, and Vulneraboner......let your imagination ponder over those terms.

There are many quotable phrases in the story, but this is my favorite:
"If I had a ticket to heaven and you didn't have one, too, I'd tear my ticket to pieces and go to hell with you." It is a little crazy but so true for soul mates and life partners they cannot imagine a life anywhere without the other.
