Like the smell from the crisp factory, this was too cheesy for me.
A sweet story of love and music however the ending felt contrived and cliched, which was a bit of a let down after the charming story of the rest of the book.
She did it again, she got me. I read the description of her books, forgetting how they just draw me in and won't let go, and think, 'okay, I'll give this one a shot.' And then, as with the other 2 I have read, I think .... I MUST read this book again ... and again .... and again. I am not sure what this genre is, but the depth which with she deals with the human condition, introspection, insecurities, miscommunication, and then with the persistence and determination of the human spirit is just incredible. Wow. Until the next one ... and I forget how amazing they are .......
A fun, easy read with likable characters and a lot of music. Frank, the owner of a vinyl record store, insists he will never stock CDs, even if it puts him out of business. He has the ability to put the right music into the hands of people who need it, even if they don't think they will like it. I wish I had him in my life!
I enjoyed this book, though sometimes found the main characters a little bit annoying. It was a bit like one of those romantic comedy films where you are constantly waiting for the couple to get together, but of course they don't, and there are lots of misunderstandings and falling outs and the whole time you want to just shout at them to speak honestly with each other and get together for goodness sake. I enjoy this author's writing and her style and if you enjoyed Perfect and Harold Fry, you will definitely enjoy The Music Shop too. I just couldn't quite connect to the two main characters in this one. The secondary characters such as Maud and Kit were of more interest to me. I loved all the music references and I have to admit I loved the ending, though it was a bit corny and unrealistic. One for the romantics.
A celebration of the healing power of friendship, love, and music. This is a quirky love story with a cast of well developed characters and filled with ideas expressed poetically. I loved this book! Does for music what The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry did for books.
an absolute delight. The characters were alive, and the storyline was larger than life - almost comic book but finely skteched.
Frank, who is a master discographer who only trades in vinyl and can recommend the exact piece that every customer wants (even though they do not know it), oversees the decline of his shop with a paralell backstory of his childhood and his mother's delight in music.

Every time I read a Rachel Joyce book, I know my heart will respond. This is a brilliant book that shows how people connect with each other through music, and the impact music has on people who allow it into their hearts. The characters are brought to life so that you feel like they are your neighbors. Highly recommended.
I really just didn’t enjoy this book. I found myself avoiding picking it up and am happy it’s finally behind me.
