Oh my goodness. I loved this one. Some people might find it a bit slow but I really liked it for some reason. This book felt like the equivalent of curling up in a cozy coffee shop on a rainy day with a cup of tea. I just loved it. The only little nitpicks I have are that Kit's character got a little annoying with how incapable he is of doing anything, and the sudden time skip at the end. I felt like the book could have ended stronger if Ilse and Frank had just gotten together when she confessed her feelings. Overall, I still thoroughly enjoyed this.
The beginning of the book was slow and i wanted to dnf. I pushed through and i am so glad i did! I loved Frank and would give him the world. Everybody needs a Frank in their lives!
I so wanted to love this book since I really enjoyed "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry." This book is about Frank, the owner of a record store who has the ability to heal people by recommending the perfect music for their aching soul, and Ilse Bachman, who steps into his store and asks for music lessons. Though Frank can heal others, he cannot come to terms with his own loneliness and troubled past. The best parts of the book were the descriptions of the music compositions and the composers, the rest was a simple tale of unrequited love. Light read for the beach.
Another book I’ve thoroughly enjoyed by this author. Not sure if it’s for everyone, but I found the story delightful and sweet.

This is one of my favorite books ever! Have read it twice.
A love story wrapped around a love of music . It shows that music transcends all of history and generations. I don’t want to spoil it by writing any details. If you have a love of books, see how a love of music can affect you.

Exquisite! I haven't loved a book like this in a while. The kind where you can't wait to get back to it. And since I was listening to the brilliantly narrated audiobook [Steven Hartley is a god] in the car, I really suffered when a) arriving at work b) arriving back home c) arriving anywhere to endure a period ahead of me until I could get back. I don't summarize the book in my reviews - it's there for you already. This took place in London. The characters were each unique and endearing. The whole story was an inspiring look at humans and what we love, what paralyzes us and how we go on the best way we can at that moment/that year/those many years. Music is central to this story about a music shop that sells only vinyl. Frank is the proprietor who has an amazing gift of finding music that a shop visitor needs to soothe his/her soul. I can't say much more than I loved the cast, the story, the pain, and the joy, plus all the bits in between. If you can listen, this one of my top audiobook experiences.
This would have been a cute, solid 3-star book if not for the treacly mawkish resolution. I am also not slavishly nostalgic for vinyl, but I did at least enjoy most of the music talk throughout the story. Find a vinyl enthusiast who likes charming stories, and this is definitely recommendable--just not for me.
