maybe it was because i went into this book with low expectations but oh this was shockingly good. i think i just really am fascinated by and enjoy remo so much — even when i was reading the previous book, twisted emotions, he was always the character i was most excited to see. but what surprised me was how much i enjoyed serafina. given my love of remo, i actually think his pov was pretty lacking; i would have loved to have gotten into his mind so much more. but where his pov lacked depth, serafina’s more than made up for it. it was so satisfying to see her inner turmoil and ultimate growth in such detail.

this book features one of my least favorite tropes in romance — children lol. but perhaps most shocking about this read was that i didn’t mind it too much. there was also a good amount of plot and mafia going-ons which i have thus far felt like all the books i read from reilly lacked. overall, i’m quite pleased.

“You are an angel, and I’m your ruin.”

Twisted Pride in one word is delectable. The plot was so good, and though I don’t have much experience with captive/captor romance, this one proved me wrong because it was done incredibly. I loved the revenge and mafia rivalry plot. Everything was perfectly balanced—the intense mafia plotline, the delicious and scorching romance, the wholesome Falcone family moments, the burning spice, and the emotional depth. Cora poured everything that is best into this book and left no crumbs.

Remo Falcone is THE psychopath mafia man. He is cruel, brutal, merciless, and beyond redemption. But behind the ruthless façade is a man full of tenderness and protectiveness, which is impossible to ignore once he shows it—and he only shows it for Serafina, the Falcone family, and his babies. He is such a daddy and dad material, and I do not make the rules here. Remo frustrated me in previous books, but I always knew his character had so much potential to showcase the multilayered persona of a misunderstood villain, and Cora truly did justice to his character. He still thrives in brutality and chaos, but he’s also more open, loving, and caring ever since he fell for Serafina. The way he was ruined by her so ardently, to the point that he couldn’t stop loving and longing for her, on the verge of destruction?

“And in the end, Serafina was the one who owned me, black heart, condemned soul, scarred body.”

Serafina is such a queen. She’s fierce, resilient, and prideful—nothing and no one can break her unless she lets them. I love her. She gives Gianna from The Maddest Obsession vibes but with an ice queen persona. Serafina was made an ice queen because she was supposed to be the perfect, honourable mafia woman, but Remo brings out the uninhibited, feisty, and fearless version of her. She’s so protective and possessive when it comes to the people she loves. She never gave in to his antics, pushed back when he forced her to bend to his demands, and it was hilarious to see how she held all the reins on the cruelest psychopath in the mafia world. When Remo said Serafina could become a Capo if only their world allowed women that right, he was only speaking facts.

“I love every part of it, of you, the good, the bad, the light, the dark, even your blackest corners.”

Remo and Serafina belong together. I love how they are both prideful and tenacious, whether in winning or in loving. Remo was Serafina’s captor for months, and she was just a pawn in a game. Their relationship is a twisted bond, formed through forced proximity, emotional intensity, Remo’s stubbornness to own her, and Serafina’s Stockholm syndrome, but you can’t deny the connection and chemistry between them. It was scorching and unparalleled.

“I’m fairly sure God designed your body to drive men into insanity,” Remo said darkly.
“You believe in God?”
“No. I don’t. But looking at you, I could turn into a believer.”

Their love story is twisted, toxic, and messy, but damn if I didn’t love it because of it. The way they just get each other, how they don’t hide their weakest and strongest parts but lay them all bare for close understanding and scrutiny—I loved it all. They bring out the best and worst in each other, and I love how they can just be vulnerable and free with one another. Remo and Serafina as parents were so adorable. The way Remo turned warm and soft in Greta’s presence, and I adored how he was so in love with his babies even though he thought he was never capable of it.

She rested her palm against my chest, over my heart. “Is there something in there capable of love?”
My fucking chest constricted. “Whatever’s in there, it’s yours. Whatever love I’m capable of, it’s yours too.”

I adored all the Falcone family moments in this book as well. They are such a messed-up but happy and beautiful family, and they love each other so deeply.

I already know that no other book and no other couple by Cora Reilly would ever dethrone this book and Remo & Serafina. You’ll have to drag me by force to stop loving them, and it’s not going to happen in this lifetime.

No nie polubiłam go.

Ale bracia Falcone i ich relacja ❤️
