I read “The Visiting Privilege” and remember enjoying it. I have no idea what this book is “about.” It is some kind of subtle, sophisticated fable/parable/metaphor, and I’m not sure I know enough history or literature to “get it.” Buyer/reader beware, unless you are willing to put in the time, or have a broad knowledge, or are smarter than I am … do some research first. I might go read some reviews to try to understand, even at a broad level, what all of this might mean. But I’m not sure that I will.
Many distopian/apocalyptical novels feature young adults making their way through disturbing visions of the future. There is some of that here, but at the heart of this story are a bunch of aged and unwell environmental protesters attempting to express their disgust at what the world has become. These people, at least know what has been lost, but too many others have no inking of what preceded the world they inhabit. Scarey

The dark comedy is amazing, along with the writing itself. But as a whole, it feels like three ideas smashed into one that work, but also don't cohere as they should.

Feel that I've missed out on something here. Achingly slow for a short book, very confusing. Picks up a lot in Book 3 but overall this was difficult.
The old dear stories of possibility. No one wanted them anymore, but nothing had replaced them.

Read the other reviews, I agree with them all. In the most dramatic confused way possible.
