My only sticking thing is the use of “bimbo” - whether it’s in a book for the middle grades or otherwise, that’s just not the best direction to go. Otherwise, the art was very cute, and the characters were fun!

I can't WAIT to read the next one of these I wish the author came out with a 28 book of this but she didn't 😭😭😭

I thought this was an adorable middle grade book about first crushes, first heartbreaks, and friendship. Lola and Grace are trying to figure out what love even is so they start a notebook (research, if you will) and observe, collect data, and investigate the mysteries of love. I loved the handwritten notes and observations throughout (the mom's note at the end made me cry). The illustrations were great, good representation of diversity, and even a little library humor. I really liked the nuanced look at all the things this age group experiences. Explores rumors vs. reality, struggles for popularity, and first loves/first heartbreaks. There is a lot of kissing in this book and I know just the students to give this to come fall :) Translated from French, I think this is why some of the words don't ring true for what middle grade students might say today (bimbo, easy). I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to book #2!

This was sweet at times, and the artwork is very pretty, but it's nothing standout? There's some good stuff in here yet it's also borderline basic. Also I 100% thought the two side characters who dress alike and were calling each other "sweetie" were girlfriends and then, JUMP SCARE, they start fighting over a boy?? I don't buy it.

Firstly, the art style is absolutely STUNNING, like wow it looked like anime stills. There were some realistic problems depicted which I thought were handled well. What I didn't find believable were the dynamics of some characters.
