My soul has been decimated. If you want a happily ever after… steer clear of this trilogy. If you want outstanding literature that will pierce your heart forever… leaving you in shambles… you’ve met your match.

I barely have words. I felt every emotion in my arsenal, and I’m glad I saw it through to the end. A conclusion that tore me to shreds, but I don’t know that I could’ve seen it wrapped up in any other way.

RF Kuang’s writing is god tier in my book, these characters will live in my heart for eternity.

This is a tragedy on all accounts. 600 pages of pain.

It really shows how well Kuang understand the human aspect and the tactical aspect of the war that she’s written. it was painful, heartbreaking, has you building empathy and sympathy for characters who are absolute monsters, because you understand what they’ve gone through and their trauma and what shapes them. But it also does not skirt around the fact that what they are doing is also completely unforgivable and evil.
It still has the amazing action sequences, he ramped up to 11. each chapter has amazing dialogue and lessons to be learned.

The ending was perfect for this amazing series and I loved everything about it.
The character work is immaculate.

I have no idea where to begin when thinking about the Poppy War Trilogy. Of course it's easy enough to say "talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same" but that just doesn't seem to fully encompass it.

R.F Kuang has absolutely become a favorite author. Her use of fantastical magic with the unfortunate, brutal truths of history have raised the bar for the subgenre over all. The heartbreak that I feel in the wake of finishing this series is hard to put into words. But all the same I'm grateful to feel it.

"I am the force of creation, I am
the end and the beginning. The world is a painting and I hold the brush. I
am a god."

Did I stare at a blank space for 10 min after finishing the book? Yes I did. An amazing ending to a briliant debut trilogy.

What an epic end to an epic series. Read this series if you want the characters to feel real to you. I say this because they are all extremely morally grey; sometimes driven by ego and other times duty. I am heartbroken by the series end as well as how it ended, however, I also know that this is the only way it makes sense. It was inevitable, but still there’s that part of me that wishes there was some sort of miracle. I’m still processing, and probably will always be.
