there's just too much going on here for how short of a book this is, which undercuts anything interesting that happens.

I think I got burnt by the blurb with this one, because nothing about the blurb (to me) suggested that this story was going to be about a generic religious cult. I think I was picturing the girls as wilder, more secluded, and the story would remind me more of Yellowjackets.
With at least 8 POVs in this short story, and very little distinction between the characters, I quickly gave up trying to work out who was who and instead concentrated on the mystery of Rose, who has recently disappeared.
Unfortunately the ending didn't really shock me, as this story in verse is so short with such little detail I didn't have any time to become emotionally invested in the conclusion. I think had the story been fleshed out more, it could have had a bigger impact.

Wow, this book.
I could wax on just about the cover alone, and the inside is just as beautiful — a disquieting novel in verse about a group of girls within an idyllic cult, Wolfpack gently lulls you into a sense of wonder that quickly translates to uneasiness.
At first I struggled to discern one voice from another between the multiple POVs, but I quickly realized there was importance in every single part and the way the girls shucked off individuality to suit their group identity was SO intriguing. I enjoyed how it played into the setting and the way “escape” or “taking down the vaguely enigmatic leader” wasn’t necessarily the goal, as is often the case with cult stories.
In reading the acknowledgments at the end of the book and learning the book was initially 70,000+ words, I found myself wishing I could have read the earlier version — but only because I enjoyed it so much and wanted more!
Thank you to The Novl for the gifted copy

A very simple read about life in a cult, and I actually really enjoyed it. It was interesting. It did have a lot of characters to follow, but it was short enough that it wasn't too overwhelming. It was just a very nice easy read, which is what I needed
A great YA verse novel about 9 teen girls who are in a cultish community...and the dark side that is part of it. High school readers will love it.

I’ve always found people’s experiences while living in cults to be very interesting. In this book the way they address so many issues that come with living in cult societies is done so well. The characters were unique and I enjoyed them it was just sort of confusing because it was in nine different character’s perspectives. The writing was beautifully poetic and I loved this book so much. I’ve been trying to pick up books that I haven’t heard of and so far I’ve read two books that I loved. I mostly picked this because it was short and I thought the cover was pretty. I love short books so much omg!!!

A super interesting, super short book about 9 girls in a cult and how everything starts to fall apart after one goes missing. I enjoyed finding out about rose’s disappearance along side the girls and learned how this cult started to lose the shine of appeal as time went on. They learned to make their own choices (though most didn’t leave the cult) and know that they themselves can rely on each other
