Entertaining look at the hidden worlds ot microbes - and most particularly bacteria - around and in us. Very enjoyably and engagingly written, even if the grouchy old man in me sneered at some of the more overwrought metaphors.
Nobody could confuse the author for a microbiome sceptic, but Yong invigoratingly opens up the possibilities of the multitudes within our bodies and the (possibly) shining future of probiotics.

As a complete newb to the study of microbes I found this worth a vread. It had more detail than I personally needed, but perhaps someone who already has a foothold in the field would get more value from those parts. I'd love to see a follow-up on some of the studies that were ongoing when the book was published.

An eye opening book. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to understand their body better.
With his expert writing, the author manages to make the book a fun read and not a dry literature review.

Very interesting book about microbiology and now I can't stop thinking about my microbiome. It goes into a brief history of microbiology, various applications, and then to discoveries scientists have made in more recent years. The author did a great job selecting case studies and explaining why this field is so important. I think it is rare to find a science-oriented book so well written so for readers interested in science, this book is like a dream.
