Vivid. The characters and settings felt very real. The storytelling kept me hooked, even as the premise is revealed and it becomes clear what the ending will be. I did start to get a little impatient with the writing style / conversational tone of the main character, but it got better towards the end. Would definitely recommend.

I had this book on my shelf from last 1 year. At first, borrowed from the library at my uni, and I didn't read a single page back then. Then I bought it myself 10 months ago, still didn't read it. But then, since I wanted to start a new book, I finally decided to read this. I remember watching this film as a kid, but I don't remember anything, and that's what made me buy this book in the first place. Turns out, it was a good decision. This book made me feel things: friendship, love and loss. Isn't loss attached with all these feelings and relationships, and yet we choose to make friends and fall in love. This was a dystopian (?) world, and circumstances were so different, yet I was able to relate to everything. It is heartbreaking but beautiful nonetheless. It's from the pov of Kathy, a carer, who reminisces of the days back at this school called Hailsham. Even though she and we know what's going to unfold, it has that aura of mystery to it and it stays that way almost till the end. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but definitely a must read!

the first half i found a bit slow, but the second half was great.
it's written in such a way that you will start feeling "nostalgia" for memories you never had. also the ending blew me up.
