Sweet, warm, easy reading. Not quite as poignant as the first Guncle but remains heartwarming. I felt some of the plot was a tiiiiiny bit rushed; I’d have loved to spend more time galavanting around Europe with Patrick and the kids, or had more background into Patrick and Emery’s relationship.

If you want a cute, life-affirming, queer-friendly read about family and love, look no further than The Guncle series.

While The Guncle is about grief The Guncle Abroad is about love, and more specifically about navigating love and grief simultaneously. The sequel is not as charming as the first but it was nice to be reunited with Patrick, Maisie and Grant for a little vacation.

GUP Patrick is back in this sequel to The Guncle. Five years have passed since the first novel but there still is the same sarcastic humour and emotional life lessons wrapped up in Guncle rules.

Patrick grapples with getting older, allowing himself to be fully vulnerable to love with Emory while traveling Europe with Grant and Maisie (his nephew and niece). The trip with Grant and Maisie is Patrick’s attempt to teach them about love as their dad, Greg, embarks on a new relationship.

The story is cute, funny and approaches significant life lessons tenderly. It was a good sequel but it didn’t quite hit home like the first did. It would be a great light summer read.

Loved the first Guncle book and this one was good too, though not as good as the first.

I wanted to love this as much as book one but it did not do it for me.
