This follow-up to The Guncle was just as wonderful and as much fun as the original! I absolutely adore Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP to the kids) - he gives me Cam from Modern Family vibes. I really love a lead who continually makes me chuckle!
Five years on from coping with the grief of losing their Mum, Maisie and Grant, now 14 and 11 and whilst still loveable, are fast becoming typical teen/pre teens - rebellious, outspoken, loving social media and gaming. They are now faced with their Dad’s impending marriage to his girlfriend Livia, which they are not happy about. Uncle Patrick is there to help, but he is also facing a crisis of his own as he turns 50. Bring back in their aunt who, now divorced, is beginning to relish her newfound freedom and then also meet Livia’s sister, who is better known as LAunt - lesbian Aunt - much to the chagrin of Patrick - how dare they have another gay relative to warm to?!! And so the drama and rivalry begins!!
This is another warm-hearted read. Lots of laughs and life lessons are learnt. A genuine feel-good story - the only disappointment is knowing this is the last one written so far. I am not ready to say goodbye to them all yet!
Wholeheartedly recommend!

This is my 3rd Steven Rowley book, and I will probably now have to read everything he's ever written. I was very happy to be reunited with these adorable characters in Europe. The writing is sharp, witty, hilarious and poignant all at the same time. I absolutely ate it up. I listened to the audiobook of this one, and the author's narration was perfection. Three cheers for the Guncle!

Fun and light hearted but seemed a little forced. The original Guncle had more character, plot, and emotional breadth. It is still fun to imagine the European scenery. The characters are still lovable and playful.
Rowley has managed it again! I laughed (often) and cried in this book (and I don’t normally do that). The second book in this series sees the kids growing and Patrick (Guncle) adjusting to that. While the first book was grief and sadness and coping, book two is new starts and challenges associated. Highly recommend!
