The pacing in God Emperor significantly slower than in the previous novels, so that will take some getting used to. In my opinion, Leto II's chapters were somewhat boring,
which makes sense
, because his
boredom
is one of the major conflicts in the book. But, I think that Frank Herbert could have written about it in a better way. Because whenever his
boredom
was shown from another person's perspective it was significantly more enjoyable to read.
Duncan Idaho
's chapters were amazing though; they greatly expand upon the ideas of gholas and reincarnation. I would highly recommend reading this book mainly for his chapters and character development.

I really enjoyed this installment in the Dune series. It had a lot more of an adventure and dystopian-rebellion type of vibe which was a nice change in pace. I plan to re-read now that I understand the idea of the Golden Path and Leto's Peace more as the first read through was confusing in some parts due to a lack of understanding on my end. There were entire passages, especially conversations involving Leto that I couldn't parse the meaning of which was a bit frustrating. The storyline and characters are engaging, unique and multi-faceted although I do wish we got more of Siona's story. I see why many people consider this installment one of the best in the series, it really held my interest throughout.
