-I was missing the variety of strong characters from the last books
-basically a thought experiment: what if an emperor had 3000 years to rule instead of a single lifetime? (And he was also a worm?)
-more focused on philosophy and political theory than adventures and worldbuilding

Overall a good book, but needlessly sexualized at times. Big set pieces get undercut by a female character being just *so turned on* by watching a dude. It contributes nothing to the story or characters, just makes me roll my eyes and move on.
