I am planning to read the series, but it makes me stabby to have absolutely zero closure or ending to the novel. The book should stand on its own, not be some network miniseries.
So this book seemed like a series of bad news. A divorce, an affair, a financial scandal, a lost soilder, an heartbreak but somehow it all wrapped up and it felt like a feel good Christmas book while you remember that family is the most important thing at this time of year.

This is a snapshot of a few days in the life of a less than perfect family. It was well written and not a bad story, if a little underdeveloped, but it will absolutely not put you in the Christmas spirit.
I needed an easy audiobook for my car rides and Elin Hilderbrand is always a good choice for a light read. Towards the end I got a bit overwhelmed with the overuse of pronouns. My kids mentioned their teachers taught them to use alternatives to "he said" ... "she said" repeatedly. Maybe it wouldn't be as bad if I were reading, but listening got exhausting. Still, it was an effortless story that would be nice to enjoy that week after Christmas when life is slow. I plan to read the next book to see how the story continues since it really did end abruptly with many loose ends.
I was looking for a light, holiday read, and this one was just a little too fluffy for me. In full disclosure, I did listen to it. I’m trying to figure out if the writing was bad and hearing it read aloud just emphasized that, or if the narration was just bad. Either way, this wasn’t my favorite. The search continues for a heartwarming holiday book!
