Queer hockey romances are where it's at. Obviously the homophobia is rough,
between Gabe being outed and Dante's grandma twas hard.
I loved the character development of Gabe and Dante. Gabe learning how to be out and Dante's discovery of bisexuality. As always, I'm pissed about a third act break up.
Babes, maybe you should listen to your boyfriend before you explode but it does make for good drama. Communicating is not a strong suit of the hockey boys in this series.

unfortunately i fear if you set a hockey book in my hometown i go absolutely insane shoutout to french people and gay people and hockey people and gay french hockey people (not naming any nhl players specifically but oomfs know...)

anyway this was silly goofy and i realized mid way through that the main character's jersey number was 53 and told oomf this was jeff skinner fanfiction and he believed me so i giggled. but then there was sabres slander so i got serious (joking i giggled again sabres slander is real and valid)

i love romance but i love hockey more so yeah this slapped and did make me cry like seven times nod emoji nod emoji nod emoji

I skimmed my way through the entire book just so I could say I finished it, that's all I need to say I fear. Honestly, I should have just dnf-ed. The mcs were boring, the plot was choppy and all over the place, and at the risk of sounding snobbish, there was too much hockey talk. So much hockey talk that it took away from the actual story for me.

The story focused more on how the relationship between the 2 mcs affects them as people, their team dynamics and their experiences as queer hockey players especially with the rampant homophobia. It is such a beautiful plotline and I just wish it was executed better.

The 2 mcs have such horrible communication that I could literally feel my brain melting reading their conversations. Not a single likeable trait about both of them either. Reading this was a drag.

p.s: I'm aware that the book was re-edited and republished with a lot of significant changes in 2022 so its worth stating that I read the older, original version. I will be giving the newer version a chance eventually

I loved this. It had just enough hockey to let you know you're reading a hockey book but not to distract from the romance.
Dante is a dream of a character, large, in your face, eager to embrace every part of who he is, with very little brain to mouth filter. I adored him.
The romance is lovely and felt very organic.
I laughed, I cried, I cheered. And really who can ask for much more than that.

Okay I left book club with a list of recommendations for queer hockey romance novels and I am ready to hit the ground running. I had such a good time with this one! I definitely had more problems with this book compared to the last series I devoured. It had pacing issues and I think the ending was rushed and didn't make much sense to me. But I found the characters super enjoyable and I'll say the middle of the book was excellent. I'm looking forward to reading more in this universe!
