I felt a little uncomfy with the revenge aspect of this book. Will the girls learn a lesson? Big question.
What a cliffhanger! While reading this, it reminded me of "Revenge" mixed with the movie Heathers. This one did not disappoint (although I am kind of mad how abruptly this ends. It almost doesn't stand alone for me).

This book is all about the revenge with the stereotypical high school drama thrown in. I'm not a big one for revenge books but Burn for Burn is pretty engrossing and fast paced that it kept me flipping the pages. I pretty much read it in one sitting. We're given three different POV's; Lillia, the popular princess type, Kat, the outcast but I don't give a shit type and Mary, the shy new girl. Obviously all very different girls who's social standing wouldn't normally see them interacting. But a few chance encounters bring them together. All three are angry and out to spread their wraith on these unsuspecting school mates.
Each girl has a very different and distinct voice. I may not have been a massive fan of Lillia but it didn't stop me from speeding through her chapters just as fast as the Kat and Mary's. Each girl has a person their revenge plan is targeted at and you really do hate that person for what they've done to whichever girl. But as the story goes on and there's more interactions between the different girls with their target you start to doubt their reasoning for getting revenge. Or maybe it was just me and being easily swayed based on actions. Hell I changed my mind constantly on whether the revenge was warranted or not.
I think fans of Mean Girls will find this right up their alley. With the added bonus of a hint of magical realism that I'm hoping will make more of an appearance in the sequel.

Omg guys, this book was so damn incredible !. I was holding my breath all the way, I'm in shock right now.
5/5 Stars!!
“It took a long time for me to get better, but I did. I got better. But suddenly it's like the last four years never happened, and I'm feeling all the same terrible feelings about myself that I did back then.”

[b:Burn for Burn|13406425|Burn for Burn (Burn for Burn, #1)|Jenny Han|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1332791803s/13406425.jpg|15571673] is a book that grabs you from the first moment, I've fetl immediately hoked, I didn't have problems with the story, was soooo good, since writing is super easy and pleasant to read.
The plot is about three completely different girls, Kat, Lillia and Mary, who live on the same island. Each of these girls has a personal problem with a person who have hurt and marked her enough to decide to take revenge on them. Once the destination crosses them, they realize how they can carry out their revenges better, helping the each other.
The book is divided into chapters, each of which is for each girl, which is great because we can see how each of her lives and feels the different situations, and also allows us to get to know more to the girls
I love the fact that the story takes place in an island, I think that adds that touch of mystery and suspense needed to the plot . The way the island is created combines the luxurious side and the poorer side of society in a very intelligent way.
The feeling of watching everything in my head, like a tv series or something, was constant, highlighting that the writing style is detailed and accurate to make that possible, when I say that, isn't mean that be heavy at any time.
If Gossip Girl had a baby with Pretty Litle Liars I think it would be some like this book.

The characters are the typical teenagers, we have from the Queen B, who all hate but follow anyway, to the Popular Guy who all want but behaves like an idiot, and that is why, of course, we have a lot of drama and drama and more drama.

The main characters seemes very good to me, I think the fact that the three girls were so different in personality, makes much more interesting plot and for this same reason you never know what decisions they'll take each
Kat is the tough of the group, what I like about this character is that she has a very strong personality and I think it's a natural leader for the group of the three girls, I also like the fact that she willn't let anyone influence her way of being, I would describe her as a bad girl, but shows that has a big heart on more than one occasion.
“This is Karma. I’m a bitch. Can you think of anyone who deserves a bitch slap? - Kat”
Difinitivamente Mary is my favorite of the three, has a very sweet and sensitive personality, has a very strong and sad past and shows how you can get out and move on and she has also returned to the island to face all that hurt her once, is one of those characters who hope to see grow more.
Plus, she give us, without doubt, the most shocking plot twist that I've read,I didn't expect that!!. OMG Mary is a little Carrie!

I can say Lillia is the least I like ot the three, but I still want to know more about her and although I think it's capable of many things hasn't shown much in this book, on the other hand I love how she protects her sister and how much mediator she is shows a very warm soul , yet his personality is quite manageable for me.
I wouldn't know how to describe the romance in this book because I'm not sure there is one really, as any drama, I think we're into a loving triangle soon , but as the book is focused on revenge, I think it has left the romance one little aside, so, there are still many feelings involved and there will be more, guys, I can feel the betrayals coming!

Highly recommended !, I can't wait to continue this series because the ending was devastating and I need answers now!
Honestly this book didn't live up to the hype. It was more boring than I imagined. Until the very end. And then it was over. Sigh. I hate that with series books. It's like you read the whole book just to wait another year. I was most interested in the relationship between Mary & Reeve. I hope there's more of that later. It was a fine book. I don't know. I guess I never felt overly invested in anything or anyone. 2.5 stars
Deliciously fun. Seriously, I picked up this book to just have a quick read with some low-stakes high school drama, and DAMN did it deliver. The stakes got higher than I thought they would, and I had SUCH a blast reading this even though I didn't expect to! Also, this book was unfairly addictive.
The summary does a pretty decent job of telling you what this book's going to be like, so I'm not going to go too in-depth there; I'll just tell you my thoughts!
First things first, the prose. We have three POV characters: Mary, Lillia, and Kat. They have very distinct voices and it's really easy to tell them apart! Props to the authors on that; this is a pretty common pitfall of multiple-POV books, especially in this sort of....contemporary high school drama YA sub-genre?
Honestly, I straight up forgot about the time when this type of book was a sort of trend in YA, with things like Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl. This book was definitely a bit of a flashback to when that was A Thing, especially with the way that some of the characters (in particular Kat) used slang and stuff.
The characters! Han and Vivian are playing around with some character archetypes here, so expect clichés.
Lillia was honestly my favorite. She's the super rich cheerleader, right below her shitty best friend Rennie in the school popularity hierarchy. She just had the most compelling ties to the people around her; her revenge motive wasn't about her, it was about her sister, which I guess I found more appealing, even though it turned out to be a bit misplaced and Alex wasn't so bad after all . She also had the most to lose from this, so I guess I was rooting for her more based on that!
Next up is Mary. I really enjoyed how Mary's experience with bullying was characterized. I appreciated the perspective of the deep pain and suffering she endured, and still having some need for validation from her bully when she returned. The whole paranormal/magic thing they did with her was WEIRD.
Finally, Kat. I guess I liked Kat the least out of our main trio. I dunno, I appreciate having ~bitchy bad girl~ characters in fiction and stuff but she just....drove me up the wall sometimes with the way she perceived the world around her tbh. She really disliked a lot of stuff! And I guess her family/home life can account for some of that and explain it, and I think she made sense as a person, but also I felt frustrated by how WEIRD she was about Lillia and Mary most of the time. Also, if you're not a fan of slang in books like this, you'll dislike Kat's chapters the most.
Then, of course, there's the characters the main girls want revenge on.
Rennie is the "head bitch cheerleader" type, and she wears her stereotyped role like a badge of honor. At the same time, you do kind of sympathize with her. In fact, that's one thing this book did quite well imo: even though we wanted to see these characters get taken down, we still felt bad for them because we saw them fleshed out as people.
Reeve is the football jock who bullied Mary when they were younger to a serious extent. though he gets the least development, he also gets hit the hardest tbh, which I think Vivian and Han did well in terms of showing how revenge can get really ugly .
Alex is the most sympathetic of the targets. He seems nice, and he's had a positive relationship with both Lillia and Kat at some point. And, of course, he becomes a target based on a misinterpretation of his actions.
Okay, plot time! This plot is a very classic Super Wild High School Drama type deal. There's drugs, there's hookups, there's drama and gossip and lies. And I had fun reading it! It really sucks you into the lives of people making terrible mistakes and you can't tear away because it's just so wild and so strangely fun to see it all go down. It's not the so-bad-it's-good type of deal that Riverdale is. (By the way, Riverdale WISHES it was like this book!) It's just so much stuff and it all takes you for a ride. My main issue was with the paranormal stuff?? The thing with Mary and magic?? Why was that there!! but otherwise, you know how it is!
Also, this book got way, WAY higher stakes than I initially thought. There's a part where they literally plan to drug one of their targets and I was really just....holy shit! They really want to do that! They give a guy a really, really bad sunburn and make his garbage poetry the laughingstock of the whole school (which also was SUPER GREAT because I've seen so many bad YA books where awful poetry is considered romantic and I loved that bit where they make fun of his notebook LMAO) . One of our characters (a minor) struggles with sexual assault from an adult, which is presented in a negative light and you can see her feel the repercussions of it. (BTW, no sexual assault or even hookups and such things are described explicitly, simply referenced.)
If you're in the mood for this sort of thing, for juicy drama in a book, give this one a go!

Skipped around some towards the end; not sure whether or not I'll read the next book in the series.

You know what? I'm actually pretty peeved. You wanna know why? Because I was dead set on giving this book a glorious 4 stars before I reached the ending.
That ending was awful. I have never been more annoyed at an ending before, especially since it stinks of cliffhanger gone wrong and a now-you-HAVE-to-read-the-second-book promotion. I was hoping this was a standalone but was left bitterly disappointed, especially since sequels are never as good as the first books and I don't fancy being let down.
So three stars will suffice. Moving on.
The Summary:
Intrigued? You ain't seen nothing yet.
Welcome to Jar Island. It's small, it's quaint, it's posh and if you don't have $$$ you won't be special enough for consideration by the It Crowd. If anything, they will go out of their way to make your life a misery.
Sounds familiar?
Burn For Burn is a cross between Mean Girls and Revenge. Our protagonists are ruthless and cruel and hell bent on revenge... with more than enough reason.
Lillia Cho is part of said It Crowd. She's popular, loved by all, and best friends with Mean Lean Bitching Queen Rennie. Lillia is the complete polar opposite of her best friend. Where Rennie eats people for breakfast and spits them out, Lillia is behind her, cleaning up the mess.
Too many people have been terrorised by Rennie's Evil Crew of Evilness. Reeve, quarterback and hottie and Rennie's boytoy, made Mary's life a misery...
Now, Mary wants revenge and wants to make him suffer as much as she did back in school.
Kat has been cheated on. Used and abused by Lillia and Rennie's friend Alex...
And he's not only messing with Kat. He's also messing with Lillia...
Now, the girls want to get even and they will stop at nothing to make Rennie, Reeve and Alex suffer.
Revenge
These three girls do some fucked up shit. They have no boundaries, nothing they won't try to screw over the three people that hurt them most. They smash cars, set a fake fire, humiliate the football team in front of their competitors. There is nothing they won't do.
And it's sweet, sweet revenge.
Oh, how I would love to take revenge on the people that made my life an absolute misery in school. I would love to screw around with them and make them apologise for every cruel thing they've ever done.
Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian weave a brilliant story of girls gone bad, fuelled by anger and hurt. The story is incredibly real and raw: not only can you see them hurting, but you can feel it too. In my opinion, if you've been screwed around with during your school years, you will be able to relate to these girls on an emotional level.
It's a bloody good book, one that will have you cackling evilly and egging these girls on.
Pet Peeves:
I realised too late that this book is shelved under "Fantasy" and "Paranormal" and that pissed me off a bit. Mary, it seems, can do some paranormal stuff. If you've read Carrie by Stephen King, you'll see a lot of similarities between Mary and Carrie. There was no need to put this random paranormal shit in the book. It only served as a scapegoat for when stuff got unexplainable.
So annoying.
If it hadn't had some random paranormal stuff thrown in, this book would've been a solid four stars.
Or maybe still three, because that ending was rage-inducing.

Bad things can happen, even to good girls, and sometimes the only way to make things right is to do something wrong.

"Fingers crossed, we're getting new uniforms this season, and they're gonna be crop tops. That means I don't want to see a single French fry one anyone's plate at lunch. I'm serious. Also, Dori." Dori looks up, startled. "You need to retire that jacket. It makes you look like a soccer mom."
Too many people have been terrorised by Rennie's Evil Crew of Evilness. Reeve, quarterback and hottie and Rennie's boytoy, made Mary's life a misery...
Reeve stared at me with unbelieving eyes. Once he blinked though, he looked furious. He shouted, "Get the hell away from me!" And then he lunged. His palms went straight into my chest, and, throwing all his strength behind it, he shoved me towards the guys. [...]The pain had me gasping for air, my last breath before I plunged into the water.[...] I could hear their warbled laughter above me.
"Yo, she looks like a manatee!"
Now, Mary wants revenge and wants to make him suffer as much as she did back in school.
Kat has been cheated on. Used and abused by Lillia and Rennie's friend Alex...
And my second thought is -- Alex Lind is running game on me? With a freshman? I don't think so. Clearly he has no idea who he's messing with.
And he's not only messing with Kat. He's also messing with Lillia...
I stumble backward into a tree, then get behind it. Who's the girl? Is it the one from his party, the one he was lying in bed with?
I squint hard. The girl is petite. Dark hair.
Oh my God. It's Nadia Cho.
Now, the girls want to get even and they will stop at nothing to make Rennie, Reeve and Alex suffer.

Here is the Kobo store’s summary:
Postcard-perfect Jar Island is home to charming tourist shops, pristine beaches, amazing oceanfront homes—and three girls secretly plotting revenge. KAT is sick and tired of being bullied by her former best friend. LILLIA has always looked out for her little sister, so when she discovers that one of her guy friends has been secretly hooking up with her, she’s going to put a stop to it. MARY is perpetually haunted by a traumatic event from years past, and the boy who’s responsible has yet to get what’s coming to him. None of the girls can act on their revenge fantasies alone without being suspected. But together…anything is possible. With an unlikely alliance in place, there will be no more “I wish I’d said…” or “If I could go back and do things differently…” These girls will show Jar Island that revenge is a dish best enjoyed together.
I was eagerly waiting for this book from the library. I read and enjoyed The List earlier this year by Siobhan Vivian, and Jenny Han’s Summer series has been on my TBR for a while, so I was looking forward to reading something by both authors.
The story revolves around, and in alternating chapters is narrated by, three girls: Kat, Lillia, and Mary. Kat is a tough girl but kind of a loner. Lillia is rich, popular, and best friends with the mean queen bee. Mary is returning to Jar Island after years away. Eventually, the three of them end up hatching a plan to get revenge on someone who has wronged each of them in turn, and arrange to do so in a way that no one will suspect their involvement.
I liked the alternating points of view, seeing things through each of the girls’ perspectives. It helped me get to know each character, and also made it really easy to sympathize with each girl for how she was treated/wronged by others.
This book reminded me of the Pretty Little Liars series, in a good way – it was fun to read about people plotting revenge, in a small-town, high school hierarchy setting. I also liked that the girls (well, at least one of them) experiences some doubt and then remorse once the revenge plot is underway.
Lillia was my favourite of the three girls. Her part in the revenge plot came about as she was trying to look out for and protect her younger sister, and it was fun to read about her fancy mansion and friendship with Rennie, her mean girl-best friend. Lillia was more reserved than the other girls, and I identified with her more than with the others.
Kat came across as a tough girl, but as I learned about her history with Lillia and Rennie, I came to see a more vulnerable side to her and liked her more.
Mary was more of a mystery. She used to live on Jar Island, but for reasons not revealed until much later, she left and years later is now returning to live with her aunt. She didn’t know Kat or Lillia, but she definitely wanted to be part of a plan to get revenge on Reeve, the popular jock who made her miserable.
This was definitely a fun book, but of course, is the first in a planned trilogy. I have no idea how long I have to wait to read more, which is frustrating because the end, while not exactly a cliffhanger, didn’t feel fully resolved. However, I’ll definitely be looking for that sequel whenever it comes out!
If you are a fan of the Pretty Little Liars or Lying Game series or the movie Mean Girls, I think this will appeal to you. If you like contemporary YA with revenge, gossip, and high school shenanigans thrown in, I definitely recommend this book. (From http://pingwings.ca)
