Hmmmm... what can I say about this book? Yes, it's about friends who become enemies ..and "frenemies" among their so called friends... and yes pretty complicated! I was afraid that this might be a Gossip Girl Copycat since , you know how that story goes...friendship gone sour, friends plotting against friends ...well, this one kinda like that but in, well, milder sense...compared to Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf Epic On and Off friendship in GG!

The story is about these three girls , Kat , Lillian and Mary who was brought together by a single purpose : Revenge. So they plot something to bring down Alex, Reeve and Rennie.

At first I got really confused of all the characters. Which is which? Or maybe I'm not used to reading books with multiple Point Of Views. ( Two POV's tops. ) I don't say I don't like it. Sometimes, it's refreshing to read something ...like, outside your comfort zone? This got to be it for me. I think it's interesting the way Ms. Jenny Han wrote it. She let me get into each of the character's mind... but still, left me thinking..and guessing what could be more ?

As I read along I can't help but to frown and smile (?) to all the childish things these trio had been doing. Like stealing Alex private journal ( to humiliate him?! ) and replacing his sunscreen lotion with Retin-A?! Well, the latter is kinda funny .. thinking that Alex was the star Quarter back? Imagine how sensitive his skin when exposed to sun?!I actually find that amusing! Yes, really childish, right? But, hey! They are like seventeen?! So it was justified.

So, why take down Alex, Reeve and Rennie? How can I explain this without the spoilers ? Hmm, First, Kat hated Alex for ditching her over Nadia who happens to be Lillia's little sister. Rennie is Lillian's supposed to be best friend who's quite an airhead and talking trash about Kat ( her former best friend! ) ...and did something unforgivable to Lillian. And Reeve? He did some nasty things to Mary that almost destroyed her. Okay... did I gave a you a clear picture? Or I made it more complicated? If I create a simple illustration it will be like this:
Kat vs Alex
Lillia vs Rennie & Alex
Mary vs Reeve ....and Lillia-Alex-Rennie-Reeve are close friends! ................... Much simpler this way! Kat, Lillian and Mary became their Karma!

The more consumed they were to this revenge, the more revelation begun to surface that oftentimes left them to think , "Was this the right thing to do?" . But can they stop it before further damage? Or there's no turning back?

Yes, they started this, they might as well finish it. At the end, when they thought they'll have the last laugh, everything went downhill. Somebody got hurt the way they don't intend to be. Clearly, these trio does not expect something like that to happen. And now, are they ready to face the consequences?

The ending was a cliffhanger that left me with a lot of questions. Overall, it's an okay book but not really a wow for me. Maybe, the sequel will be much better... and I want to know what happens to Alex and Lillian , like if there will be a budding romance or what? And of course, I wanna see how evil Rennie can get, now that Lillia stole her "prom" queen crown from her? Or what will Mary do about Reeve? Or what is this for Kat?

“I almost say, Wait. Shouldn't we get our stories straight first? But then Mary finally speaks.
“This is all my fault,” she says.
Lillia sighs and shakes her head again. Wiping her face, she says, “It wasn't’t your fault.”
Mary’s shivering, curled up in a ball. “It was,” she says, looking up at me. “I know it was.”
I fish my lighter out of my purse and light up. Inhaling deeply, I say, “It was all of us.” I take another drag. I let the smoke seep through my body. “I just hope we get away with it.”

I don't remember the last time I read a book in less than 2 days. I think it has something to do with Jenny Han's writing style. I have been trying to branch away from YA books for over a year now but for some reason I always find myself falling in love with another series. I didn't grow up with books about three girls plotting revenge on people who hurt them. I chose to read the romantic brain washing crap that made me every nieve and much more venerable. I'm not saying that plotting revenge and hurting people is the answer to solving a teenage girls problems I just feel like I would be a different person if I had realistic books to read instead of crap like twilight.

I'm not sure where the authors are going to take the next books in this series but it should be interesting to see and I am definitely along for the ride.

The book reminded me a lot of The Perfectionists by Sara Shepard, which I loved, but this book started really boring and I got really confused by all the names and for a long time I couldn't tell Reeve and Rennie apart.
Then it started to get more interesting and I really liked the flashbacks.
Some serious topics were addressed which gave me a lot to think about after laying the book aside.
Ohhh and the typo in this book hurt my eyes a lot!
adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I brought this with my on vacation, because up front it seemed like an enetertianing and fast paced read, and I wasn't wrong. Lots and lots of drama, and I really liked some of the tings they did with these characters, and how complicated they all end up being. Really enjoyable, but also quite dark at times. It's also stuffed full of stereotypes (though they become less so as we go along), but it works for this (here I should admit that I often enjoy books with stereotypes like this, if not horrendously written).

I would definitely give this book 4.5 stars because it checks a lot of boxes for being a good book but not *all* of them (idk if this is 100% worth a reread later yet) Really good set up for the next book. Decent/good pacing of the story. Interesting mix of characters. Interested in seeing where the book series goes from here.

This book was definitely an intense ride. ESPECIALLY, that ending. Ugh, that ending.

Of course I had a few problems with this book, being mainly with the characters. Mary was the one I could identify myself the most with. Out of the three girls, she was the only one I could understand the reasons for wanting revenge. As a girl who has also been in the same position, of being bullied but wanting badly your bully to like you at the same time, I shared the same struggles she did.
Reeve was the number one psycho prick and, to be 100% honest, I wasn't even sorry for him when all that happened by the end of the novel. I was mostly worried about Mary, because apparently the girl has powers??? Like, I don't know what happened there, but it was intense.
.

Kat and Lillia were 'okay'. Kat was funny, but again, I didn't find her revenge THAT needed. I understand that is bad to feel like an outsider, but ultimately, she didn't care if people on school didn't want to be friends with her, because she didn't want to be friends with them either! But she definitely had a strong personality and an attitude that I appreciated.

Lillia, on the other hand, was absolutely annoying. I thought I was going to like her at first, but then I realized she's just as cocky and mean as all her other friends. Plus, the "revenge" of hers was SO unnecessary. I mean, everything could've been avoided if she took two seconds of her day to actually HAVE A CONVERSATION with her sister.
Not to mention, I felt like she was getting revenge from the wrong guy. Like, okay, Alex was apparently going out with her little sister, which is disgusting and all, but she was ABSUED by a college dude. Don't you want him to pay for his actions? For taking advantage of you while you were drunk? Shouldn't be the guy that raped you what you should worry about????

This book is full of classical high-school stereotypes. It was annoying sometimes, but I think that was the whole point of the novel, anyways. Regardless of that, it was a really quick and fun read. I finished the book within two days and I think I could've easily ended it in one sitting. But, yeah, it was kind of annoying sometimes. I'm still going to continue with the series, though. I need to know what the hell is going to happen after that freaking ending.

serious question, what are they injecting jenny han's books with? every single time i've read one of her books i spend the entire time mentally making fun of it all and then the second it finishes i immediately have to put my life on hold and read the rest of the series. what's your secret jenny. what are you putting in those books of yours

4 stars

A good 4 star read that definitely got me out of my reading slump, which I totally needed!

What a guilty pleasure read. If only we were able to get back at all those that wronged us without consequence.
