I'm sick of waiting for karma. Karma can suck it.
revenge, mean girls, popularity, magic, all in a dreamy island setting; it's hard not to fall under this book's spell. i have to say though, the paranormal element to it wasn't as explored as i thought it would be but i'm hoping that gets cleared out in the second volume. an easy, entertaining read with an array of interesting characters. (my favorite was queen bitch rennie but shh.)

Postcard-perfect Jar Island is the kind of place where nobody locks their doors at night, where parents can sleep easy, knowing their daughters are tucked away safe and sound in their beds.
But bad things can happen, even to good girls . . . and sometimes, the only way to make things right is to do something wrong.
Lillia used to trust boys, but not anymore. Not after what happened this summer. And she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her little sister from the same fate.
Kat is over the rumors, the insults, the cruel jokes made at her expense. It all goes back to one person--her ex-best friend. Someone needs to teach her a lesson, and, with Lillia and Mary behind her, Kat feels up to the task.
Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she’s not the same girl anymore. Now that she’s got friends who have her back, he's going to be in big trouble.
Three very different girls who come together to make things right. Will they go too far?
again, a book who's playing with my nerves.
I was into the story, it was SO SO SO good and I was going to giving 5 stars because it's been a while since I haven't read a book that great, and... I couldn't because of the end. LAME.
Ugh, I'm so dissapointed.
At first sight, I thought 3 differents POV would be too much, and there were too many characters. but, nah, you get used to it fast providing that you read the book fast.
characters: they were OKAY. Lillia and Kat were my favs. I felt sad for Mary because I thought she was kind of left out of the story even if she is the one with a MAJOR problem. plus, Alex is my MAN, I love him so so so so so (sox8754) much, since the beginning.
the end:
anyway, I will read Fire with Fire this summer.
love ya,
Think John Tucker Must Die but with a twist. Highly enjoyable.
This book was good but I am not sure if I will continue with the series. I enjoyed all of the characters especially Mary and Kat. I didn't really like Lillia, but she began to grow on me as the story progressed. This was a unique story line and I really enjoyed it. The ending....I don't know how I feel about it.
3.5
I'm definitely interested enough to continue and see what happens but I'm wondering where this is going...
I get a little annoyed with the level of immaturity but I just need to keep in mind their age.

When I finished this my literal first thought was "wtf did I just read?!" Highly disappointing after really enjoying Han's other two trilogies. Unsympathetic characters, unrealistic setting (why does is the high school on a small island giant??), strange long winded plot that just was trying to set up the rest of the trilogy. Will not be continuing on in the series
2, Fire with Fire ★★★★
3, Ashes to Ashes dnf
my not so secret obsession is high school drama going too far in fiction and people getting revenge on the people who wronged them, especially if it features "mean girls". burn for burn didn't exactly do that, but it came close.
it's set on an island, called jar island, and stars three girls as main characters:
‣‣lillia
-one of the popular girls at the local highschool, a senior cheerleader
-asian&hella rich
-due to her popularity, she is pretty much friends with all the people they want to take revenge on, her best friend is rennie.
-she suspects her freshman sister, nadia is having an affair with one of her friends, alex, so she wants to punish alex for taking advantage of her sister.
-she is surprisingly nice(well, if we ignore their whole ass agreement), isn't bragging or a typical mean girl, and overall i really liked her.
‣‣kat
-she used to be friends with rennie and lillia before highschool, but she has fallen out and now is pretty much an outsider at school.
-she is friends with her brothers' stoner, biker friends.
-she is the kind of rude, outspoken badass, who takes no shit from anyone and doesn't care about the hs bullshit.
-she had an affair with alex during the summer.
-she wants to take down rennie, because she was pretty much a bitch to her, and the whole revenge plan is her handiwork.
-i'm not going to be surprising here, but i loved her the most out of the trio, but she could be dramatic at times.
-her dark mind? great.
‣‣mary
-she used to go to middle school on the mainland, but after seventh grade, her family moved away for good, and now they're coming back.
-her middleschool bully, who ruined her whole ass life was reeve, who is now the star quarterback at this school and the most popular guy.
-she is quiet, blonde, and a tiny bit unhinged.
-for real, homegirl seemed so out of it the whole time, i couldn't expect what she was going to do. and she also reads sort of juvenile? poor girl needs some more help.
-there was implied eating disorder in the mix too, and it isn't addressed properly, which i'm not happy about, but maybe next time?
-her character was by far the most interesting, and i wanted to know what happened to her.
so, these three girls team up to take down their enemies and get away with it, because karma doesn't seem to do its job, they all help each other, so if one goes down, everyone goes with them. it starts out with rather tame pranks, but you can expect that it's going to get serious.
honestly, i didn't love this as much as i expected. it was an okay book, but i wasn't particularly excited or invested in the plot. alex's parts with lillia bored me, i didn't care about them, and the way it ended disappointed me, but after that, it got so much better. the ending wasn't shocking, and i'm not sure how this is gonna work for two more books, but i'll probably still read the sequels.
okay, i don't have a lot to say because this was okay, i don't have any strong feelings about it, so yep, this review sucks even more than my usual ones.

The film Mean girls in literary format. Not a very enlighting read, but exactly the one thing I could get through during these long mentally challenging workdays. A funny distraction!
I really enjoyed this contemporary! It had a lot of twists and had some darker elements that kept me entertained. I liked the Kat, Mary and Lilia a lot, and how their relationship has grown. I'm loving all of the revenge!
