Whew! I think I read this in two sittings. It was a very tightly paced, twisty thriller, and I loved the short chapters and multiple POVs.

My main issue was that there was SO many characters and plot threads I could not keep them straight. Even in the beginning I could feel myself losing track of all the people introduced. I think it would’ve been better if I actually read this instead of listening to the audiobook, but it was a little rough. I’m still not quite sure what exactly happened to certain threads became it was a little too ambiguous and confusing. Like a certain character died? That was news to me in the epilogue! And googling it, it doesn’t seem I’m the only one who was confused about that.

Also, I can tell this male author has never been pregnant with twins or talked to a woman who’s been pregnant with twins.

All in all this was an enjoyable thriller and I’d recommend it. What you see is what you get. Fast and twisty.

Not the worst book, but it was very predictable. I called the killer from their introduction, as well as the other deaths that we discover early on. Kind of disappointing.

Also...
I am really frustrated that the promising young brown kid was killed off. He is the only death outside of the murders, and the only death "on the page." Why is the only POC mentioned the only death? Granted, it was clear he was going to die from the moment Finlay introducedhis mother with that "take care of my boy" line. But it is still irritating.

Wow, wow, wow. The ENDING!!!

The Night Shift is probably up there in being one of my favorite thrills. I didn’t see the ending coming at all. I did get one of the plot twists. I liked that two of the three characters had flaws that they were processing through while the whole story was playing out.

The ending was the Epilogue was the sweetest thing 💕

The killing of three teenagers, leaving a fourth as the lone survivor, at an ice cream store in New Jersey is eerily reminiscent of killings fifteen years earlier. In 1999, four teenagers were killed in a Blockbuster video store in the same town, with a fifth left injured but alive. The killer was assumed to be the boyfriend of one of the girls, with the rest as collateral damage, but the boyfriend went on the run & hasn't been seen since. The survivor of the first attacks, Elle, is now a therapist & is asked to talk to the survivor of the latest killings. Has the perpetrator returned to the town?

This is a gripping read which weaves a narrative from the aftermath of two brutal attacks on (mainly) young women fifteen years apart. I thought the three main characters that the narrative originates from - Elle, a survivor of the first attacks, Chris, brother of the man believed to have carried out the first attacks, & Sarah, an FBI agent who is 8 months pregnant with twins - are easy to empathise with, although everyone is carrying their own secrets. I was almost disappointed that it turned out to be the person I thought it was at the start - everything else was so well worked out, that it seemed a bit too easy. Overall though, it was a really great read.

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Head of Zeus - Aries, for the opportunity to read an ARC. I am voluntarily giving an honest review.
