Review:
This book… I don’t even know what to think. It caused me so much pain, it was literary palpable. This book was the definition of heart-wrenching.

And what he said at the end? Stop it-

After reading all of the reviews for this and seeing the renewed hype this series has been getting on BookTok and Bookstagram, I went into this with pretty high expectations. But I'm not going to lie...it felt like I was reading a completely different book because this was just not good. First and foremost, I probably would have liked this a lot more had I read this when it initially came out. But everything about this just felt way too cringey and dated to me. Maybe it's just because I work in the field, but the addiction representation felt a little harmful to me at times. I don't know anything about this author duo's background, but the depiction of people and loved ones with addiction felt like someone writing about what they "think" addiction is versus what addiction "actually" is. I also never enjoy reading about rich and annoyingly privileged characters so that's partly on me for picking this up in the first place.

I almost feel like I need to give this a re-read, I know I wasn't in the best headspace when I was reading this and that may have made me be a little bit more critical in my opinions and feelings. Regardless, I was intrigued enough by the plot and side characters that I will likely continue on with the series (especially since I now own all of the audiobooks after impulsively buying them during a recent Audible sale thinking I was going to be obsessed).

I cannot get into the characters and also this is a whole series of 5 books about one couple that I am not at all interested in right now. Maybe I will visit it again in the future (highly unlikely)

I really like it… only not a 5 star because there were times that Lily annoyed me. But I like that both characters are not perfect… BOTH make bad decisions which makes them seem like actual people.
