Sad story. So much going on. Fast paced. Needed to go more in depth with many plot points. Was hopeful for a happier ending. Overall, beautifully written story on friendship, love, abuse and freedom.

Man oh Man what a great story this is. Taylor, Kevin and Jackie, 12 year old boys set out to christen their hidden fort that they have taken an oath to keep hidden. While hiding out in their fort they have an event that starts a nightmare. This is Chad's best yet, so brutal and so moving at the same time. Not a long book, but in these short 100 or so pages, Lutzke delivers a gut punch from the start. you can not love these kids enough and you actually feel the pain right along with them. i absolutely loved this book.
And that cover, once you read this you will understand.

had a chance at getting an ARC from CD for review, but i have now bought the book also for my shelves.

I discovered Chad Lutzke while scrolling thru Kindle books one day. I love his books so when I got a chance to read this one I jumped on it. Chad has a way of writing that makes you experience so many different emotions. This book is based on 3 best friends, young boys and what happens when they find something in a corn field and how as children they try to handle it and the aftermath of their decisions. I liked all three characters but as a mom, my heart ached for Taylor and I wanted to hold him and tell him I loved him. This book had me crying. That seems to be a theme for me when I read a Chad Lutzke book.

I was emotionally wrung out by this book. There is body horror, but it is not the focus, instead, these three boys and their relationship were the focus. I cried numerous times while reading it. This is very impressive because it was novella size.
