A cute contemporary romance involving high school sweethearts who went their separate ways upon graduation, and suddenly find themselves in each other's company again 18 years later when journalist Keri is sent on assignment to interview the reclusive popular writer Joe Kowalski. Joe, at first wanting to get back at Keri for leaving him, makes a stipulation of the interviewing process that she go on his two week family camping trip with him. But what sarted as a slight joke on both of their parts ends up bringing back old feelings and memories.
I mean honestly the plot was nothing new, nothing different. I did like the way that Shannon Stacey handled it though. I think having all the family members around kept the book from dwelling too much on the past and instead focusing on how the past brought them to where they were currently.
I think that Stacey obviously had more trust in her characters than I did. I kept thinking that something would happen and the true colors would show through, especially where Keri's intimate magazine article of Joe was concerned. I kept waiting for (not hoping, just thinking it was enevitable) Keri to give up her promises to Joe for success, but I was gladly mistaken. I'm glad that Stacey chose not to take the characters to the point where they were backstabbing each other.
This is the type of book that requires little to no extra thought processes. Just a light, quick, fun read. Nothing too serious. Sometimes that's all you need in a book. I look forward to picking up the others in the series when I'm looking for another little distraction.

This series is so great. The characters are very realistic and the emotional situations between married people especially were very realistic. I'm very picky about my 4 and 5 stars and this is definitely a read-again!
I loved reading this book! It's been sitting on my ebook shelves forever and I never really got around to it. I believe I downloaded it when it was free, so I figured I'd get to it at some point. I actually downloaded it because it not only sounded good, but one of my friends has a few Shannon Stacey books and really likes them. I figured if she did, then I probably would too!
I thought this was a fun book to read. Joe and Keri were high school sweethearts until Keri left and moved across the country. Joe becomes a famous author and he's journalist Keri's newest assignment. I really loved reading about Joe and Keri's high school relationship and seeing how they interact with each other after so many years. There's definitely some tension and the relationship is complicated. But watching them work out all of their problems is what makes this a great book.
Keri also has a broken relationship with Joe's sister, Terry. They were best friends growing up, but Keri then got into the "popular" crowd and Terry felt left behind. Not only did I enjoy watching Keri and Joe repair their relationship, but Terry and Keri's needed definite repairing as well. There's also a really great side story between Terry and her husband, who she's currently separated from. We watch Terry struggle begin on her own and coping with without her husband.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who love romances. I read that the next book is about Joe's brother Kevin, which I cannot wait to read! He seems like a great character and I'm really excited for his story.

Joseph Kowalski and Keri Daniels were high school sweethearts but Keri left Joe broken hearted in order to chase her dreams. Now 18 years later, he’s a reclusive best-selling author and she’s a reporter for an entertainment magazine whose editor has just discovered her past relationship with Joe and demands she get the scoop on the guy. If she refuses she’ll risk losing her job and any chance of moving up a rung or two on the ladder. Keri’s worked hard to get to where she is and leaves behind sunny California to travel to the small New Hampshire town where she lost her virginity to a boy named Joe in the back of a 78 Ford Granada to the sounds of Whitesnake.
Said boy, now all grown and super sexy, talks her into joining him and his large extended family (he is single, without kids) on a two week vacation camping in the deep woods of New Hampshire without cell phones (no texting for help!), computers, or luxury bathrooms. Keri is appalled, especially when she learns she’ll be sharing a cabin with still hot Joe, but agrees for the sake of her career. The premise is too, too cute. Living in New Hampshire and coming of age in the 80’s (to the dulcet sounds of Whitesnake, Poison and Ratt -- remember them?) this book really resonated with me on a nostalgic level. The author got the feel of NH camping down pat and reminded me of all the reasons why I haven’t done it in a decade or so. Joe is a fabulously warm and lovable hero with a realistically messed up family who you’ll probably love and despise in equal measure. This book is as much a reunion romance as it is a tear-inducing family drama-edy. Keri and her unending quest to be someone other than a “mom”, “girlfriend” or a “wife” is where things fell flat for me. Personally, I can’t connect with a woman so hung up on her career that she’d leave her true love in the dust. But that’s just me, I married my high school sweetheart and we’ve been together since ’87 so I’m lucky and probably pretty biased.
Despite Keri, and her obsession with being “Keri, an important someone” I enjoyed this book a lot. When Joe and Keri reunite the sparks fly and they’re both forced to face their past mistakes and figure out a way to get along without losing their hearts all over again. Joe was devastated and made some poor choices when Keri left him the first time and all that heartache, angst and pain must be dealt with before they can move on. It’ll all bring a tear to your eyes, I swear it. The plot isn’t anything terribly exciting but it felt very real and honest and I will definitely check out what this author is up to next.

This was the most recent in a number of Kindle Freebies that were not a total waste of time, but were also not terribly good.
The Annual Kowalski Volleyball Death Match of Doom!!!!
Very sweet and funny romance, with a side of humor. I wish I was a part of a family like this.
I'm glad I gave this a shot. I'm curious who the next books are going to be about. I guess I'll just have to read them. :)

I've heard so much about Shannon Stacey's Kowalski family that I decided to start at the beginning when this went on sale for the Kindle.
I really enjoyed the book. It had a great setting, fun and interesting characters, and it wasn't too conventional. I'm glad the author didn't exactly use a "big mis" to move the plot along. I was also really glad there wasn't a revenge twist in to the story. It was refreshing.

A reporter is given an ultimatum: interview the famous author she dated in high school, or lose her job. He agrees, on one condition: she has to spend 2 weeks camping with him and his extended family in the mountains of New Hampshire. Hot ATV action and fully-body tick checking ensue. This was incredibly cute and fun.
Keri Daniels, journalist in an LA gossip magazine, wants a promotion and it's almost within reach. Then her ruthless editor discovers that her high school boyfriend was Joseph Kowalski, reclusive bestselling author, and presents her with an ultimatum. Get an interview, or lose her job.
Joe Kowalski has never forgotten the girl who really broke his heart, by leaving him in the dust after graduation and never looking back. Now she desperately wants an interview with him, and while he's not really inclined to share his secrets, few as they are, with the world, by agreeing to answer her questions, he can spend some more time with Keri. If she comes with him on the two week Kowalski family camping trip, she will get to ask him one question for each day she survives. No phone, no computer, no social media of any kind - just Keri Daniels and the entire rambunctious Kowalski clan.
Keri can't really refuse, and the sexual chemistry between her and Joe is as potent as ever. Of course, Keri's former best friend, Joe's twin sister Terri, is not about to see her brother's heart broken again, and will do anything in her power to stop keep Keri and Joe apart.
This is the first of the many contemporary romance novels by [a:Shannon Stacey|149808|Shannon Stacey|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1262677659p2/149808.jpg], chronicling the lives of the many eligible Kowalski men. I've previously read the third in the series (there is really no need to worry about reading these in order), so when this was FREE on Amazon a while back, I jumped at the chance to get it. Stacey writes believable, engaging characters who clearly enjoy spending time in each others' company. She does a brilliant job of introducing a large cast of supporting characters, as well, without it feeling like obvious sequel bait, like some authors seem to.
In this case, Joe's formidable parents, his siblings and their many energetic kids are almost as much fun to read about as the former high school sweethearts finding their way towards their happy ending. Joe's twin Terri (Theresa Kowalski Porter) is probably the most important secondary character, as she's struggling to piece her own failing marriage back together and channels far too much of her anxiety towards Joe and Keri, determined to break them apart. Unsurprisingly, since this is a romance, no one ends up getting divorced, and Joe and Keri discover that while they didn't find their HEA straight after high school, it's never too late to rekindle that old flame. I will absolutely be checking out more of Ms. Stacey's books.

Really enjoyed this book! I've read a lot of romance novels and the best ones are where the characters are so real you miss them a little bit when you're finished with the story - this definitely has. Light, easy read!
