It took me a while to finish this book. This was my first Sedaris book. At first I had difficulty to place the characters and their relationship with Sedaris, which made it more difficult to understand his observational humor. I put the book down multiple times, only to restart weeks later. But suddenly I got hooked, laughing at loud and spending every free moment reading. Can't wait to read more from this author

This is the most I’ve audibly laughed at a book in some time. I took off half a point because sometimes he’s so out of touch, even though he knows it. But I still recommend reading both these sets of diaries.

Audiobook is key for these diaries. I love Sedaris so much it, and it was alternately heartwarming and eerie to relive these years with him.

I like his stories better, but it was still fun to listen to.

Audiobook from the library - 4.75 stars. I liked the first diary better, but this was still entertaining. It was just hard to listen to at times; he mostly did not talk about current events, but when he did, those times were agonizing to listen to. Not any fault of Sedaris’s; 2003 and forward have just been trying times to live through. Ending with coronavirus year 1 and the 2020 election is especially jarring, given that I’m reading this midway through 2022, and we are still dealing with coronavirus and whatever hope we had from Borden’s election is rapidly dissipating. (At the time of this review- the Texas GOP has put the right to secede on its official platform, among a very long list of other terrible things, including deciding Biden stole the election. So.)
Tldr: I was thoroughly entertained, just intermittently shaken by reminders of the world we live in and how crummy it is and how much worse it is getting.
