This is the first book I've read by Sandra Cisneros and I found the collection of short stories to be a mixed bag. I personally prefer short stories that are plot-driven over those that paint a scene or sketch a character. This collection had more sketches than plot. The stories that were more to my taste were very well-done but, while I can appreciate the artistry of the stories that weren't to my taste, I can't say that I really enjoyed them. I'll try a novel by Cisneros in the future but I think I'll steer clear of her stories.

I’m already excited to reread this. I imagine myself reading it as a book club where we all gather after savoring it slowly and share the stories that feel most precious to us. It is the kind of book that I want to share with someone.

Decent amount of Spanish in it, but you can figure out what is going on.

"But oh kids, they's cute when they're little, but by the time they start turning ugly, it's too late, you already love them."

Oh, Sandra Cisneros~

All the stories featured incredibly real, flawed, and different people. There is an indescribable elegance in Cisneros's writing. My personal favorites were: Never Marry a Mexican, Bread, and Bien Pretty.
