Really good book! Was pleasantly surprised that it was styled like a comic. Lovely introduction to gender outside of the binary and definitely left me with more understanding than when I started

"Some people are born in mountains while others are born by the sea. Some people are happy to live in the place they were born, while others must make a journey to reach the climate in which they can flourish and grow!"

Tore through this in one day. Awesome memoir story. Liked the simple art/style. Abrupt ending but an important read to have nonbinary personal stories. Major props to [a:Maia Kobabe|14706574|Maia Kobabe|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1630190527p2/14706574.jpg] for being transparent enough to show eir journey with gender and sexual identity.

I saw a two star review that said: "I just don't really care that much what other people think, and the author seems to care SO MUCH. I can't relate to making it this far into your 20s and still caring this much. Or being this confused. This is excruciating. This reminds me of being in middle school. You know when you were a pimply little teen and you would do something embarrassing and you'd have the urge to hold your breath until you died? That is the feeling this book reminds me of."

^^^ I think that is understandable and makes the story all the more worth picking up. Even though it is different than our personal experience and perhaps sexual/gender identity and social norms are much less of an issue for the reader, the story presented is eirs not ours. It was an exploration of another human's perspective that I found informative, honest, and thought-provoking.

Hard to rate autobiographies like this. How do you critique the plot structure of someone’s childhood? Idk man. I will say, I think the ending was a bit abrupt? It doesn’t rly give a sense of closure but… idk does anything in real life? So it doesn’t bother me too much, just smth I noticed. I appreciate the pap smear fear representation! A lot!! That part made me nauseous but in a good way! I think. At least it feels like me n the author were mutually nauseous, so… togetherness! Community! Aha! Also TAZ reference, I see u 🫵🫵
