If you enjoy Addams Family type humorous horror/sci-fi, this one is your cup of tea.

I picked this book as one of the monthly free reads offered by Amazon, not knowing what it was about, intrigued by the author's fame. However, what awaited me within its pages was a mix of appreciation and disappointment.
Firstly, I must say I really appreciated the author's mastery of language. The prose flows gracefully, adorned with grammatical correctness (such a rare thing to find nowadays) and a rich vocabulary that lends an air of sophistication to the narrative. There's an undeniable beauty in the way he crafts each sentence.
Yet, amidst this linguistic elegance, I found myself drowning in a sea of superfluous detail, getting bored as irrelevant details piled upon each other.
The writer’s direct messages to the readers annoyed me.
The narrative in my opinion lacks substance, and I was merely keeping on reading just longing for the moment when I could finally close the book and move on to something more fulfilling, either for depth or fun, qualities this book lack of.

magical.

This is by far the most wondrous and inspiring of all Mr Koontz’s books I have read.It is reminiscent of Odd Thomas in being smooth and almost fully blue. The narrative style reminds me of Douglas Adams’s Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
In a nutshell, I found it to be uplifting, inspiring, scary and altogether wonderful. The only detractor for me was the occasional crudity, which the story didn’t require, though that is only my own feeling on the matter

This book is listed as thriller, and I put off reading it until I felt I was in that mood.  There are some thriller vibes, but the fantasy and quirky humor are much more evident.  The author states that it's fantasy, and I agree - I enjoyed it even more than I expected.

What a unique and fun read! Dean Koontz tells the story with humor, wit, and sarcasm, leaving me to imagine the movie (if made) being directed by Wes Anderson.
It's a fantasy story, about good vs evil. Of course, good wins. But the philosophical journey was fun.

"In that case, to at least some extent, to a degree we cannot know, we possess the power to weave the lives that will bring us happiness if we’re wise enough to be nice, but not so nice that we’re foolish, and if we realize that our free will and creativity should be used with humility rather than to acquire power to oppress others."

3.5 ⭐️ it was good but maybe not quite what I thought it was gonna be, I read horror under the genre and thought yep ok, I would describe it as fluffy horror if anything
