Waaaaay to slow and too many unnecessary details. Did not grab my attention.
fast-paced
Wow, to finally get a seasoned author through Amazon’s First Reads! I’ve read a lot of Dean Koontz’s books, and mostly enjoyed his earlier releases. It was good to read him again in The Bad Weather Friend.
This book starts out strong, with an interesting plot and speedy pacing. The writing is a little bit cheeky—particularly at the end of each chapter—and yet very engaging. The plot is somewhat startling, but in a fun way. I love fiction with a bit of otherworldly occurrences, and The Bad Weather Friend offers this, and more.
Benny Catspaw is a down-on-his-luck realtor who gets a surprise gift from an unknown great uncle. The sparks a great adventure in Benny’s otherwise ordinary life to determine the reason for his bad luck.
Part supernatural, and part fantastical, The Bad Weather Friend is different from anything I’ve ever read before. It’s obviously a book not wanting to be taken seriously. I enjoyed Benny’s adventures, but the reason for his misfortune turns out to be a little less than satisfying. However, the ending is righteous, and the pieces fit nicely together. I’m a fan!
