I really wanted to like this book, but ultimately it just wasn't for me. There were several parts that I really liked, but I felt like like the writing style took away from the storyline.

I picked this one up via Amazon Prime First Reads and was the first book by this author I attempted to read. I almost put it down on the first page. The writing had no flow and the the way the author described things and characters felt like a high schooler on a writing assignment. I gave it a few more pages before giving up entirely. The characters are painted so broadly in those few pages I read that I was continuously rolling my eyes.
Amazon First Reads -- this wasn't what I expected! A mix of fantasy, sci-fi and humor, this was my first Dean Koontz novel in 20 years or so. I quite enjoyed this. He turns a clever phrase often. The ending felt a little rushed to me, but, I will certainly read more from the author.
