Lauren and Adrian are happily married and settled in their lives. That is until Zara witnesses an horrific crime of which puts her life in peril. Lauren has no other choice but to go into witness protection with her daughter in the hope of keeping her safe.

I have no clue how anyone can be expected to cut all ties from everyone and everything and start again with a whole new identity. I for one would find it extremely hard as there would be far too much temptation to get back in touch with loved ones as well as trip up and give more away about yourself than you should do. It didn’t feel like any type of life to have and my heart went out to both Lauren and Zara who are also struggling with adjusting.

Whilst they are trying their best to get on with their new life, Adrian wants to do whatever he can to protect his wife and stepdaughter from being found and for the people who are after Zara to be caught and locked up. I constantly feared for his safety as well as his family throughout reading this story. I could feel my heart in my mouth many a time and I struggled to sit still as I was screaming in my head for the characters to be more careful. With every page turned, it felt like danger was going to jump out at any moment.

How to Disappear really is a roller coaster of a read. It will have you putting yourself in the characters shoes and asking yourself what you would do in their situation. One thing for certain, I don’t fancy my chances if I ever find myself in a similar position! Just thinking about this story has my heart racing ten to the dozen and I was an emotional wreck by the end. And even then the author wasn’t finished with her mind games and I was literally knocked sideways! Gillian McAllister is the queen of edge-of-your seat reads and she has nailed it again with this one. Brilliantly intense!

Picked this book up in the library as I had heard of the author and the blurb sounded like my kind of book.

I flew through this one after a bit of a slow reading month - it was fast paced and I enjoyed the multiple character perspectives. I didn’t predict the twist at the end and overall felt that this book was a really delicious read.

Will definitely read more from the author.

Really slow start and a bit boring in the middle but the ending genuinely shocked me and really picked up in the last 100 or so pages. I genuinely really felt for Lauren and Zara as the book went on

What can I say about this book I mean it blew me away!

I have a read previous book by this author but this book just blows everything out of the park!

It has taken me a while to find the words for this book and it just broke me at the end.

I mean the story of a mum and daughter having to go into witness protection and leave everyone and everything behind, well I couldn’t fathom it. I even spoke to Mini-Me about it, I mean as long as we had each other we would be ok, but it doesn’t bear thinking about it!! I just couldn’t go through the fear, the doubt and the unsettling lives they had to live. Just the smallest thing could let people know, the wrong people, where they were.

Although, Zara was a right madam in the middle and I would have given her a slap. The way she treated her mother after everything riled me! I understand she was struggling but I guess as a teenager you can’t see past your own life. She couldn’t even see how Lauren, her mum was struggling and that broke my heart.

This book will stay with me for a long time, you know, well you wouldn’t know, that this does happen. People do end up in witness protection but do you ever really know who they are!

The narrator of the book was spot on, she brought everything to life. She amplified the terror in Aiden’s characters and the sorrow and loneliness in Lauren and Zara’s.

Even though the author has said she doesn’t have all the facts about witness protection, for obvious reasons, I felt like she was spot on with them! I believed her words, I have no reason to doubt her…..and that’s why it’s terrifying!!!

I was so hooked on this book, I started to plan my day around listening to it. Checking how much time I had left and how I could squeeze in in a day. Thank god for working at home at the moment!!

I really can’t do this book the justice it deserves but it is a book you should definitely read….like now!

2.5 stars. I was pretty underwhelmed by this book. It was readable enough but I've read too many psychological thrillers to be surprised by them/the twists and the characters weren't all that well-developed (each was built around a couple of key traits which were reflected on ad nauseum by the character themselves and those around them). Oh, and also
Spoilerat the end there's a reference to Zara living in Scotland and choosing her A Levels. We don't do A Levels here. Basic research, c'mon! (Okay it's possible that she was taking them through a private school or distance learning or something, but I got the impression the author just didn't assumed the English school system extends over the entire UK).
