Take one princess. Add an impending wedding, a missing heir and a queen who appears to be an evil sorceress.

Alternately, take a prisoner with no memory of his past or crime, cities-worth of people locked away in an improbably-sized prison, and rumors of a secret escape route.

Mix well.

Add a dash of technology and the knowledge that all is not as it seems.

Come to the sad realization as you come to the last chapter, that while
Spoilerthe prisoner escapes, the sorceress gets her comeuppance, and the unwanted wedding is off
, you'll probably need to read the sequel to get to the real finale to the story.

Compelling story and interesting world creation. The ending was a little abrupt - a set-up for the sequel, which was disappointing, as I would have like this story to be a bit more "finished." Read for my YA book club.

Alright, not mind blowing, but enjoyable.

This book had the makings of a great fantasy, but didn't quite make it. None of the characters are particularly engaging, the romance goes no where, even the "bad" guys aren't well developed. It was like the author couldn't figure out what book she was writing. I'll probably read the next book in the series if my TBR pile has nothing in it. Overall, my rating is meh.

Woah, I liked this book a lot more than I actually expected to. Though somethings about it were predictable and some characters way too naive for my liking it was overall a very interesting story. Didn't feel particularly connected to Claudia as much as I did to Finn, but I did think she had a way more mature view of things than he did. The major plot twist of it caught me off guard so I was very pleased, will definitely pick up the sequel sometime in the future.

A bit disappointed. It was a fascinating premise but the writing wasn't too stellar.
